Do Animals Go To Heaven?

Ranked #3,165 in Culture & Society, #68,900 overall

HERE'S WHAT I THINK

Do Animals Go To Heaven? Animals must go to Heaven, or else where is that spirit that animated them while they were alive on earth? We are strongly connected to our pets emotionally, as they become members of our families. They were created as we were by our "creator" and have a part in our daily lives. If you go by the Holy Bible, then you'll be able to see that there are animals in the "afterlife". "And the lion shall lie down with the lamb, and a little child shall lead them". Even Jesus Christ is called "The Good Shepherd". And a shepherd herds what-sheep-an animal!

Yes, you're right!

Humanity says:

All animals go to heaven! People even get attached to their cow for the simple notion that it blessed them with milk and food. Every animal has its purpose, just as we do..life is the ultimate gift. We all have a place once we pass on...its up to our behavior and way of thought that will give us and our little animals that golden ticket.

knit1tat2 says:

All life has a soul, some simple (as in a tree), some complex ( as in human). Animals can make choices, even choose to be good or bad. Evidence of their souls! And yes, they all go to 'heaven' the biggest recycling center of the Universe! lol

roberta478 says:

yes, i believe they do.. hcg drops

jj jose says:

sad

Jerrad28 says:

Of course they do, haven't you seen "All Dogs Go To Heaven"??

nancycarol says:

All I know is, if there are no dogs in heaven, then I don't want to go there. So many folks seem so sure one way or the other, but I like to feel that animals who give unconditional love are an extension of God's love. Thanks for a great lens.

Stardust67 says:

Animals are already in heaven, except the ones that are forced into our human insanity!

nolanjohanson says:

Animals are in heaven since they get born and remains in heaven when they passed away. They don't have to go to heaven when they die because they are already in heaven.

Dog rock says:

Yes Animals go to heavem! all they say is Dog don't have a sprirt!,But if a Dog dosnen't have a sprirt, then all they are moveless corspe and another word they must have one! But I hope they do anyways it just a opninon

Jway says:

People don't go to "human heaven." It's Heaven, Kingdom of The Creator, so if it can allow essence of humans (who are animals), I think Heaven allows essence (Spirit) of all things. My follow up question: why do we still think Heaven only occurs when death is involved? Let your Eyes be open and you will see, if only for a moment, that Heaven is here, now. The relationship in our hearts (with animals) continues long after the forms past to dust.

Donna Fenza says:

Absolutely without a shadow of a doubt they ALL go to heaven instantly. They are restored, renewed and will wait for us until we get there. What kind of God do you think we have to create such perfection, a loving, caring pet with feelings and think that is it after it dies here on earth. Are you kidding me? All of our pets, created by God, go where we go. I cannot wait till i get to heaven just for that reason.

gc6foot7 says:

In the new book "In Heaven Kittens Play," author Nick Sacco shows us that the loss of a pet through death is not the end but only the beginning. A special garden cared for by a loving angel awaits those creatures who pass over. There they play in peace and without fear, forever loved by this special being. He has a cool new site at nicksacco.com

Reagan says:

Yes of course they do!!! If they didn't I would never be happy. If there is not animals there is not Heaven. I believe God loves me, so He would bring them up there for me.

Recession-Proof says:

of course. . . just depends on your conception of heaven.

Ashley says:

My dog just passed two days ago. I miss him so much. My tears will not stop. I really believe that animals must go to heaven. I want to see my friend again.

sara says:

Aheaven without animals?Doesn't sound like heaven to me.

Linda Daniel says:

IF GOD CREATED IT, THEN IT WILL HAVE THE CHANCE TO BE WITH GOD IN HEAVEN WHEN THEY PASSES ON.
IF YOU ARE CRULE TO ANY PERSON PLACE OR THING YOU WILL HAVE TO FACE GOD, AND HE WILL DETERMINE YOUR FATE.

Stimulus says:

What? Animals don't have a spirit? Are you nuts? I have met more animals with spirit then people. Dolphins are said to be more connected and intelligent then humans too. I think, we as humans often think so very lofty of ourselves yet ants seem to have things much more under control.

jonart says:

I believe that they do go to heaven, and there are going to be a lot of them up there.

Alice says:

Yes absolutetly!!!!

No way, Monkeybrain!

Michelle77 says:

i don't think they die and go there but...I think that God can re-create an animal in heaven...especially if we ask him ...He does Love us you know :) ....

Resjes says:

I agree with Langa95, you just rot in the ground or turn to dust before beig stuffed in a jar that's overpriced haha..there is no heaven so therefore they can't..If I believe in heaven I would say they do but I don't so...

Langa95 says:

Animals do not go to heaven because there is no such thing as heaven. Heaven is a stupid thing to believe in. When you die you're dead and you rot in the ground or are burnt and put in a jar. Your 'soul' which also does not exist doesn't go anywhere. If you wanted a truthful representation of a soul it would be you personality which is just the links in your brain. When you die your brain rots so these links go. Religion is stupid, how can anyone in this day and age believe in it, science holds all the answers and has already proved religion wrong. If you are religious you should be sent to a school so you can learn to tell the truth about everything. There is no heaven and therefore animals do not end up there.

Tiggered says:

Whatever happens to us after we die, happens to animals as well.
Personally, I would keep heaven out of the equation.

jared92 says:

I don't believe animals go to heaven, but i do believe you will see them there. They will be there with you, but only for you. They have no soul. Humans are the only creatures on this planet that have souls. Animals are just physical beings. Humans are both Physical and Spiritual, which separates us form animals.

thinkaboutit says:

animals dont have souls they dont get to chose between right and wrong thats why human only go to heaven on judgement day read the bible and you too can find out the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hakaida93 says:

Heaven is made for spirits. Animals do not have spirits. Therefore, they cannot go to heaven.

sukkran says:

if there is heaven for animals then there must be a hell. so don't disturb them. let them go some where else.

zx says:

Yes, animals are innocent. Humans are the chosen one from the Almighty Creator. We humans have special brain that can't be seen that is Aqal. It is one of the Almighty Creation which able us human to think and decide whether something is good or bad. Animal, exceptionally, doesn't have this Aqal, not only animal but lot of other existed beings. Human are a special creature, The Almighty create us humans with aqal aside of brain. That is human, animal, without an Aqal can enter heaven. It is also said in the Holy Quran. Aside from animal, there are exceptional human that can enter heaven freely without having his deeds counted at the Judgment Day, they are crazy people, a place or people not knowing about Islam. These are exceptional people that I know so far.

Momtothezoo says:

According to my faith, animals do not actually have a soul. Therefore, they would not go to Heaven. However, I feel God has a special place in his heart just for them. He created them and loves all of his creatures. I just know he will take care of my beloved pets, whatever his plan is for each of them, just like he takes care of me.

Andy says:

Heaven must be crowded with limitless number of species including sea animals, flies, bees, Mosquitoes etc. The question is - is there a Heaven? And if you believe there is, can you imagine living for over 389+ Billion years? Creepy thought...I know.

gaara says:

Are u out of ur mind? death existed for animals since creation.
there is no life afta death dude.
although we get attached, they are still just animals without reasoning and other key attributes worth bringing them to life.
anyway- who said ur goin 2 heaven?

informedhuman says:

Why are people so determined to cling to old myths and superstitions. How can modern rational thinking people believe there is a strange being somewhere watching over and controlling all life in this vast universe? It's simply nonsense from a time when man thought the Sun was a God and disease came from evil spirits.

Bodybychocolates says:

There is nothing biblical that supports one way or another. It doesn't have to do with our salvation or relationship with God. He love animals just look all around and there will be animals in heaven. We just don't have the answer.

Spirits just read one of the post below and spirit is the air we breath and that is very clear in the bible it has no thought or any other action to it.

kathryn says:

They come back as people or a bug, but they do go to heven after their second life. With the exception of cats who have nine lives to be different kinds of creatures, animals have two, and then they go to heaven on Earth. There, animals act just like they did on Eath, but in a different world. Same with humans. Humans have two lives but the second time they come back down as bugs. After a while, the creatures go back down to Earth as the species they were before, but not the same one. They are reborn smarter and different. They do not remember who or what they were before or any of the things that happened. Of course, God is real and we see him once we die, but we do not remember seeing him or what happens to us after we die. Our minds never go black, like some people believe. We and them keep living.

flutestar123 says:

I don't think animals go to heaven. I believe that animals can't go to heaven because they can't accept God into their hearts.

Jesi says:

i think animals have already a heaven where they live

Ener-G says:

I believe in reincarnation, but I'm not sure if animals reincarnate (although Buddhists believe they do). I do know as an energy healer that animals are not as attached to their physical forms as human are with theirs.

Friamin says:

I believe we are all energy beings each with our own unique vibrational frequencies, this includes animals. I am afraid our concept of heaven is a construct we have designed to sooth our fears of death. Once we and our pets pass on from this physical plane I believe our energy will survive but not in a way that we will be conscious of our individual selves. We are energy beings...energy can't be created or destroyed....We live on but the big question is how and where. If I had my choice I would like to share that space with my beloved pets :)

Phil says:

While animals are God's creations, they do not go to heaven. They should be treated humanely. But, the end of life is it. Sorry to disappoint. I understand losing a pet is painful, but that does not create "doggie heaven" because it is convenient to you.

A Dog For Jesus

A Dog For Jesus
By Rudyard Kipling

I wish someone had given Jesus a dog
As loyal and loving as mine
To sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes
And adore Him for being divine.

As our Lord grew to manhood His faithful dog
Would have followed Him all through the day
While He preached to the crowds and made the sick well
And knelt in the garden to pray.
It is sad to remember that Christ went away
To face death alone and apart
With no tender dog following close behind
To comfort its Master's Heart.
And when Jesus rose on that Easter morn
How happy He would have been
As His dog kissed His hands and barked its delight
For The One who died for all men.

Well, the Lord has a dog now, I just sent Him mine
The old pal so dear to me
And I smile through my tears on this first day alone
Knowing they're in eternity.
Day after day, the whole day through
Wherever my road inclined
Four feet said, "I am coming with you!"
And trotted along behind.

Best Friend

Best Friend

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.
He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.
After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.
When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, where are we?' 'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered. 'Wow! Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked. 'Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up.' The man gestured, and the gate began to open. 'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveler asked. 'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.' The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book. 'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?' 'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in.' 'How about my friend here?' the traveler gestured to the dog. 'There should be a bowl by the pump.' They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree. 'What do you call this place?' the traveler asked. 'This is Heaven,' he answered. 'Well, that's confusing,' the traveler said. 'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.' 'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.' 'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?'
'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.'

What does pet keeping tell us about ourselves and our relationships with people? Can pets be good for our health? Does having pets help promote empathy for other humans? Companion Animals and Us brings together some of the newest research from a wide variety of disciplines including anthropology, history, psychology, sociology, and human and veterinary medicine to explore these and many other questions. This book will provide fascinating reading for anyone interested in understanding more about the human-pet relationships.

Review
Your book, Will I See Fido in Heaven?, drove me to a careful personal study of the Bible's animal passages in the original languages. These passages adequately prove to me that air-breathing animals are not merely biochemical machines. Your book is filled with excellent information as well as a compassion for God's most amazing earthly creation outside the human race. I believe it correctly reveals that God has an eternal plan for the animal world. It will be a great comfort to the Christian who has lost a beloved animal friend, as well as an open door for the animal lover who has to consider his or her own relationship to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. --Reverend Jeff Harker, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Columbia City, IN

I have read the book and am sure it will help many people. It is a book for animal lovers and expecially people with pets, or those who have lost pets. It is very Biblical, which means that Christian bookshops will love it. It has certainly raised my awareness of this issue. --Annabel Robson, Commissioning Editor Religious Books, Hodder & Stoughton Publishers, London, England

roduct Description
Animals being in heaven is a biblical fact. The bible explains the animal kingdom from the time they were created up to the time of the resurrection and the second coming of Christ.

About the Author
I have been married to my wife for 42 years. I am now at the age of 61. The Lord has blessed my wife and me with two daughters and four grandchildren. I became interested in the bible at the age of 16. After having studied the bible and listening to numerous ministers, I concluded there were too many different beliefs among these ministers about certain subjects that are in the bible. At the age of 58, I decided on finding the truth if animals will be in heaven, and what animals would be there. After three years of intense study and research, I found not only does the bible tell us animals will be in heaven, but the bible also tells us the animals are to be resurrected at the second coming of Christ. I knew God could have but one answer about the animal kingdom being in heaven, and through his help and my faith in his word, I have discovered the truth.

Do Dogs Go To Heaven? Eternal Answers for Animal Lovers

Do Dogs Go To Heaven? Eternal Answers for Animal Lovers

Amazon Price: $119.94 (as of 02/18/2012)Buy Now

Product Description
Do Dogs Go To Heaven? is a question the author's Mom asked a number of ministers. Hearing each one give different "shallow" answers, Jean Holmes felt this question deserved a better answer. The Bible does answer her Mom's question with an emphatic "YES!" Long held theology that animals lack souls and spirits is soundly refuted with numerous Bible texts. This book addresses hard questions, like why God required animal sacrifices, in loving truth. The role of animals and the relationship Jesus Christ had with animals is illuminating. This book presents a brilliant tapestry of Bible verses, interwoven with animal behavior and intelligence studies, and anecdotal evidence of animals as intelligent, caring companions here and in the hereafter. Bible accounts of animals as healers, helpers and rescuers are laid against modern narratives. Do Dogs Go to Heaven is very readable, yet crafted with scholarly precision. It is already providing comfort to those who have lost loved animal friends.

God's Covenant with Animals: A Biblical Basis for the Humane

Hyland, an evangelical Christian minister active in prison ministry, migrant farmworker rights, female equality issues, and animal rights, attempts to locate animal-rights thinking in the Bible and thereby justify the animal rights movement to Bible-believing Christians. She contends that the Latter Prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Micah, and Hosea) opposed not only religious formalism but also specifically the animal sacrifice of the Temple cult. She asserts that the pre-Fall Edenic images of Genesis and the Peaceable Kingdom vision of Isaiah 11:4-9 represent God's Kingdom as it was, will be, and ought to be now. None of God's creatures is carnivorous by nature; sin brought meat-eating into Eden and caused the widespread cult of animal sacrifice. Hyland necessarily struggles against St. Paul's view of Jesus' crucifixion as an atoning sacrifice, for the sacrificial death of Jesus implicitly justifies animal sacrifices. Her tone is often preachy and hostile toward most scholars who find little concern with animal rights in scripture. These scholars, however, are correct; the Bible just does not concern itself with the humane treatment of animals. Thus, while her writing is clear, her conclusions are not compelling.

From Publishers Weekly
"Rocky's loss taught me how deeply we grieve for our loved animals, the intensity of pain and the length of time it can last," writes Betty Carmack, a nurse and professional pet loss counselor. In Grieving the Death of a Pet, Carmack draws from her experience of counseling more than two thousand people who have lost a beloved pet, as well as the loss of her Rocky and other furry friends. She offers the book as a kind of pet-loss support group to counter "a world that reminds us repeatedly that grief for an animal doesn't count as much as grief for a person." It's poignant and sometimes heartrending, filled with personal stories of love and loss as well as Scripture and thoughts on faith.

From Publishers Weekly
Responding to an alarming increase in cancer and other diseases in ever-younger pets, Goldstein, founder of the Smith Ridge Veternary Center in upstate New York, offers a vivid and engrossing account of how toxic environment and poor diet are proving as deadly to our animals as they are to us. "Cancer is the far marker, the defining outer limit of how toxic our world has become, and of what those toxins can do to animals," writes Goldstein. Declaring himself one of a growing number of holistic veterinarians, Goldstein outlines an approach to healing that revolves around strengthening the immune system through diet and such holistic healing techniques as acupuncture and homeopathy, so that an animal can heal itself.

Any dog owner knows that her own pet has feelings, but what evidence exists beyond the anecdotal, and what does this evidence teach us? Bekoff, professor emeritus of biology at the University of Colorado, pores through decades of animal research-behavioral, neurochemical, psychological and environmental-to answer that question, compelling readers to accept both the existence and significance of animal emotions.

Book Description
If it were a simple choice, many people would choose to treat and care for their pets with natural therapies. Unfortunately, most cat care-givers find the expectations and requirements of natural pet health care fairly imposing and outside their reality in regards to cat care. Unlike the other resources on the subject, Whole Health for Happy Cats provides readers with the basic information to enable them to ask the right questions as well as find the right answers for their cat and their lifestyle. For individuals interested in caring for their cat without the use of drugs or chemicals, Whole Health for Happy Cats will enable them to incorporate holistic treatments into their lifestyle and benefit from reduced health care costs and a longer and healthier life for their cat. Although the book's approach is organic, it also presents well-documented health facts and research so that cat owners can make the very best decisions for their cat's lifelong health and well-being.

From Publishers Weekly
The star of the British television show Dogs with Dunbar has been teaching pet owners to train their dogs humanely and thoroughly for over 30 years. In this compassionate and honest volume, the veterinarian shares his definitive opinions about the way dogs should be trained. This is a great tool that anyone who wants to get a dog should peruse before they bring their pup home because, as the author points out, owning a dog is a big responsibility, and "millions of dogs are euthanized each year simply because their owners did not know how to housetrain or chewtoy-train them." Dunbar includes information that prospective dog owners should know before they select a puppy, and he also explains how to meet his proscribed series of important Developmental Deadlines (two of which come up even before the dog reaches its new home!). In addition to a step-by-step guide to every stage of puppyhood, the book includes practical services, such as a pre-puppy shopping list and lists of the best dog training books and videos.

Why the Wild Things Are: Animals in the Lives of Children

Amazon Price: $17.08 (as of 02/18/2012)Buy Now

From Booklist
The study of children, suggests Purdue professor Melson, has tended to be humanocentric, with the role of animals in childrens' lives ignored. Yet, as she amply demonstrates, young people often seem to have a closer relationship with their pets than they do with their parents. It is from animals, the author argues, that children first learn about love, loss, and loyalty; it is with animals that children learn how to nurture. Children, she suggests, may even understand animals better than they understand adult humans, since animals' behavior is simple and straightforward. It seems rather obvious that kids have a special bond with their pets, one that may never be re-created with a human, so it may come as a surprise to some readers just how unexplored this area of child development is. Those looking for a pop treatment of the topic may find Melson's rigorous study a bit tough going, but for anyone willing to work at it, this perceptive, groundbreaking account sheds valuable new light on a fascinating subject. Important!

If this page has helped one grieving soul over the loss of a beloved pet, then it has served it's purpose. With so many sad cases of pet loss with the recent scare in our pets food, hopefully this lens will bring some hope to a grieving heart. We lost six of our cats to the poisoned cat food. I made this page with tear-filled eyes! I STILL miss my beloved Tobie (Old English Sheepdog) who died under suspicious circumstances! Tobie was my best friend and I nearly died with her of a broken heart.

Vets Say People Need to Understand Their Pets

We've been told for years now that getting a pet may rank right up there with clean living when it comes to improving our health and disposition. A good dog, or even a cat, can take away some of our loneliness, ease depression, and lower our cholesterol, according to the Mayo Clinic.

One study even found that stockbrokers with pets were better able to control their high blood pressure than stock brokers without pets.

Lots of science backs that stuff up, and that prompted a team of veterinarians at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, to ask a simple question. If pets do so much for us, why are we so often abysmally ignorant when it comes to their needs?

One thing led to another, and the vets have just released a new textbook, Companion Animals: Their Biology, Care, Health and Management. The book is designed for general education courses on the college level, and the authors think they're addressing a subject that has been long neglected.

We know we love our pets, but too often we don't take the time to understand the very different world that pets inhabit, and how similar, and different, they are from us. Do you know your dog can suffer from depression? And your iguana needs ultraviolet light, not just a steady diet of crickets? And your ever loving cat, if left to its own devices, can turn into a neighborhood predator?
