Do It Yourself Updos - Lowering the Cost of Updos

Why All the Stars Have Their Hair Pinned Up

In the most simple terms, styling your hair into an updo is essentially taking some or all of your tresses and securing it at the top or behind your head, depending on what look you want to achieve. However, you will be hard-pressed to find an article or an expert that will say that a ponytail alone is already an updo. It is much more complicated than that.

Occasions that require a little bit of glamor will always find women with their hair done up. And you have to admit, it does make them more classy and elegant. Perhaps it's because you can see their faces more clearly, thus making them appear more radiant. The aura of the whole occasion also lends to their appeal. Or maybe it's because you know that they invested a lot of time to get their hair done that way, and you have to admire their effort.

The High Cost of Updos

When having your hair styled at the salon, you are not only paying for the products they use on your head, or the stylist's time that he or she has devoted solely to you, or the overhead expenses such as lights and the air conditioner. You are also paying a lot for their creativity. How else can you show your appreciation for what they have done than by slipping them a bit more than what they charged?

But in these hard times, you will need those extra bucks. After all, you have needs other than impressing other guests at that party you're attending. So rather than spending all that money and taking a chance with the stylist, why not do your own updo?

Creating Your Own Updo

The most basic things you need are some appliances for 'preparing' your hair (that is, straightening or curling your tresses), some hair products, a few accessories, a bit of creativity and a lot of patience. Long hair, short hair, straight hair and curly hair alike have been styled into an updo sometime in the past, and when the critics and the general audience saw that it worked, the popularity of the updo soared, and more and more people became interested in projecting their own traits and personality into their updo.

All updos start by properly preparing them for the updo. You may be instructed to either straighten or curl your hair, depending on the look you want to achieve. All experts would say that you need to invest in an excellent product that can tame those little hairs that stubbornly stick out of the knot or bun that you intend to do. After pulling your hair back and securing it at the back of your head, the rest is up to your own creativity.

Usually, the base of the updos are secured using common, inexpensive items such as elastics and bobby pins. For those with short hair, a number of elastics are used to secure clumps of hair and position them next to each other so that they can be fastened together via bobby pins. This way, the updo is not only limited to people who have long hair - everyone can do their own updo!

The right updo requires just the right burst of inspiration.
