Dolce and Gabbana
Domenico Dolce (born 1958 near Palermo. Italy) and Stefano Gabbana (born 1962 in Milan, Italy) are business partners and for 19 years, they were lovers. They met while working as assistants in Milan in the early 1980s and soon brought together the now famous brand. They
Known for dressing Hollywood celebrities, they are particularly known for their close relationship with Madonna. They describe her as their "friend, admirer and inspiration". Says Madonna: "Their clothes are sexy with a sense of humour - like me."
New York Magazine says: Devastatingly sexy, fetishistic designs and a characteristically Italian aesthetic; every collection would look at home on the set of a Fellini movie. Richly colored animal prints, underwear-as-outerwear, pinstripe suits, and plenty of black are all configured in a provocative way, which helped make D&G the obvious choice to create the costumes for Madonna's 1993 "Girlie Show."
The Italian designers market two lines of clothing, Dolce and Gabbana and D&G. D&G has a younger and more informal look and is also usually lower in price.
Dolce and Gabbana are well known for their sunglasses and market one of the most popular brands of desinger sunglasses on the market. A humourous video spread through the internet about Dolce and Gabanna sunglasses. The video featured a maid who looks sexy and speaks with an italian accent when the viewer is wearing D&G sunglasses, who turns into a middle-age frump when the sunglasses are removed.
