Dora Makes Me Crazy But I Always End Up Singing Along
My 2 year old girl LOVES Dora and so does every other toddler girl I see. She loves the different Dora The Explorer DVD's and when she's not allowed to watch them (which is often), she is content to walk around with it in hand, clutching to it for dear life. The cartoon series has managed to lure in most, if not all children to it. And for the boys that don't like the girly character, they came out with cousin Diego! (That's another lens.)
The show is actually quite good at teaching with repetition and interactiveness so it should get props there, but it still makes me crazy.

Wait, there are no clean ones on there
I wanted to share some dora videos, but all the ones that come up are modified and inappropriate for posting.

Dora's BFF
Why Does She Make Me Crazy Anyway?
for the love
I don't know what it is, maybe it's the songs, maybe it's the repetitiveness to it all. Come to think of it, that's probably not even the most annoying part of it, it's the total commercialism of it all. It's literally everywhere from head to toe.Shoes, socks, pants, underwear, diapers, sleepers, shirts, sweaters, jackets, gloves, toques (that's Canadian for beanie, or hat) and the list is endless. Even with all the paraphanalia, I still find myself singing to my daughter (and sometimes even when she's not around).
D-d-d-d-d-dora, D-d-d-d-d-dora. Dora Dora Dora the Explorer....
It goes beyond that. My wife and I figure there has got to be some sort of hidden message, something subliminal. What else would explain that my daughter knew Dora's name only ever seeing one episode before she was even one and a half years old.
This reminds me of a funny story... I was giving my daughter a bath and randomly she says "ohhhh maaaaaaan". I asked her if mummy was teaching her funny things. Turns out that Swiper gets told "swiper no swiping" repeatedly and when he's thwarted, proceeds to say "ohh maaaan".
There's something in there teaching our kids things unexplicably.
In all honesty, she does make me crazy, but she is also a life saver. If your child is getting irritable and nothing else is working, park your kid's butt down in front of a good Dora episode.
