Locavores Flock to Downtown Market
Established in 1979, the Sarasota Farmers Market brings more than 50 local vendors to the downtown area so that Sarasotans and visitors may shop local produce, plants, prepared foods and artisans. The city closes Lemon Avenue for one block on either side of Main Street creating a vibrant market every Saturday morning.
The vendor group expresses its commitment to enhancing and improving the quality of life in Sarasota, creating a social opportunity for residents and visitors to gather and interact, bringing foot traffic to downtown Sarasota, sustaining the economic viability of the entire downtown area and providing a venue for other not for profit organizations benefiting Sarasota. Vendors educate consumers and share knowledge about the products and services of local farmers, local businesses, and local artisans.
