It's great to see some of the lesser known research findings making their way into the public arena. Having trained and worked as a clinical psychologist I met many people who became frustrated by the dominant seretonin approach taken by psychiatry and the all too often lack of results experienced with anti-depressant medication. I agree completely with your assertion that the experience of 'depression' can be caused by a number of different factors (both biological and experiential) and that finding the actual cause should be the main priority of any practitioner. I guess it is far too easy for the dominating practitioners to either just prescribe Prozac or conduct Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

By the way, check out my other lenses. There is one that discusses the relationship between food allergies and depression. Depression cures for the whole family should also be of interest- it discusses a biochemical cause of depression that runs in families. There's more on hormonal imbalances in both men and women.

Hi Candy. Thanks for sharing. I think it's fantastic that as a counselor you also recognize (and help clients find) the physical triggers or causes of their depression. Keep up the good work. Janelle

I absolutely agree with what you say. This is good stuff. I am a counselor & get every new client to have blood test to make sure they are not suffering from any deficiencies & the other thing is watching what they eat, particularly foods that contain preservatives & additives. Although some foods don't seem to make any difference they work as a trigger or the person may have a intolerance that they never knew about. I have found that food plays a key role in many areas of life.
Depression is a killer & many people just do not understand those who are going through it. All the best with all that you are doing.
