Dragon Cave - A Catalogue of Dragons

The lens works with DragonHatchery and DragonBreeding to provide an insight into the Dragon Cave game. This is not designed to be a comprehensive list of Dragons, and some will not have images.

The only images used here are from my scroll or used with the scroll owner's permission (which will be stated). This is simply designed to give users an idea of the range and type of Dragons available in the game, and new players an idea of what to aim at! (Graphic from webweaver)

Happy Hatching!

To avoid breaking the rules, I am not posting pictures of eggs or hatchlings on here - finding out what egg turns into what dragon is up to you.

Not all Dragons have different male and female sprites. However a good collector will get one of each anyway, since there is a project in the works that will do exactly that in the future!

Common Dragons can be collected from the cave, breed with any Dragon of the opposite gender and are usually easily produced. These are the core of Dragon cave - without Commons on your scroll you will have trouble breeding Dragons. Almost all currently have the same Male and Female sprites.

Known types:
Black
White
Red,
Green

Mint
Blue (Water)
Stone
Fog (Grey)
Guardian
Skywing
Magi (Orange)
Whiptail

Pink Dragons have different male and female sprites:

Bright Pink Dragon

These are common species, but only available as females which can make the useful for gender-ballancing your scroll. They are extremely easy to find.

A Name Change: The original Pink Dragon (shown above) is now called the Bright Pink Dragon. There is a new Pink Dragon breed with both males and females, which is the one listed under commons.

Common Dragons Powers

As Adults, severeal species of Dragons gain additional abilities.
Those known so far are:
Pink Dragons - Influence Can influence the gender of an egg
Green Dragons - Earthquake Either hatches or kills all your eggs
Red Dragons - Incubate Makes an egg hatch faster

Variant Dragons

1 egg, many possible dragons

Dorsal Dragons

A new common

Known types:
Red
Purple

Hatching from almost identical eggs, there are variations of Dorsal Dragons currently available. Currently I have two examples:

A Purple Dorsal Dragon

A Red Dorsal Dragon

Seasonal Dragons

Known types:
Spring
Summer
Autumn
Winter

Seasonal Dragons are commons, but depending on what time of the year you breed them you can get different Dragons. As with other Commons, they can breed with almost anything. Breeding two seasonals together seems to be the easiest way to produce another seasonal dragon.

Sunrise / Sunset Dragons

Two variants of one dragon type

Known types:
Sunset
Sunrise

Two types of Dragon that can hatch from one egg. Apparently it depends on when the egg hatches, but this is unconfirmed.

Striped Dragons

Known types:
White Striped
Red Striped
Blue Striped
Green Striped

Striped Dragons are odd as although the eggs are identical in the cave, once collected they come in a range of colours. These colours can also be created by breeding. The red striped dragon below was created by breeding my white striped with another dragon type.

Rare Dragons

Rare Dragons

Silvers and golds

Known types:
Gold
Silver

Rare Dragons can be got from the cave, but are harder to acquire - maybe only one or two are dropped out of the hundreds of eggs in each cave drop. They can be bred, but Rare Dragons cannot breed with each other, only with Commons. Several have different male and female sprites.

Breed specific dragons

Two Headed Dragons

Splits

Known types:
Blue Split

Unusual and somewhat rare to see in the cave, two headed dragons can only breed with other two headed dragons, making them an exception to the usual rule about rares breeding with commons.

Ochre Drakes

Ochre Drakes can only breed with other Ochre Drakes.

Pigmy Dragons

Female

A type of smaller dragon, pygmy dragons can only breed with other pygmy dragons, although they are reasonably frequent in cave drops.

Event Dragons and More

Special Dragons

Papers, Chickens, and More

Known types:
Cheese Dragon
Chicken
Paper Dragons

These can only be got from the Cave and aren't breedable.
Paper Dragons, and Chickens among others fall into this category. They are in extremely high demand and can be difficult to get as they are as rare in the Cave drops as Golds, and can't be bred.

To get one you have to snag it from the cave or, if you are exceptionally lucky, from the abandoned page.

Dinosaurs

Known types:
Red Dinosaur
Yellow Dinosaur
Green Dinosaur
Blue Dinosaur
Purple Dinosaur

A special type of non-breedable egg, the Dinosaurs were brought in to replace a copyrighted sprite in the early game (no prizes for guessing what!). Collectable from the cave, or if you are lucky, the abandoned page, there are rumours of a new purple dinosaur.

Event Dragons

Only available once a year

Adopt one today!
A Christmas 2008 Dragon

Adopt one today!
A Male Halloween Dragon

Adopt one today!
A Female Halloween Dragon

These Dragons are released for special events, and often only available through the Cave. There is often a limit on how many of them you can snag - e.g. for Valentines, if you grabbed three eggs, one would be removed from your scroll and sent back to the cave.

Event Dragons may be breedable only on the day of the event. Some, such as Halloween have different male and female sprites.

Known types
Christmas (different each year)
Halloween
Valentine's

I missed the Valentine's drop, so here is a link to the announcement if you want to see what they look like: Valentine's

Others

There are other, less easily classified Dragons in the Cave, and a range of them are mentioned below:

An Alt black.

Alts
Sometimes breeding a black or vine with another dragon will produce a Dragon that looks different as an adult (the eggs are indistinguishable).

Variants
These are new dragons, which when they are eggs have exactly the same description as an existing type of dragon. However they are bred from another species, and look slightly different. If you get something that is described as an existing species but doesn't look like it, hold on to it! You might have a variant.

GeodesAdopt one today!
Breed two Dragons of the same type together and get an egg of another kind. Hold onto it and see what hatches. That's all I am saying.

As well as the dragons above there are other older dragons that people obtained.

Apparently at least one of these has been re-introduced, but is exceptionally difficult to get. I don't have either.

Now, I'm not sure, but when I looked at a neglected dragon, the adopted date, the hatching date, and the growing up date were all the same. It also had tons and tons of clicks. Therefore, I assumed that to get one, you had to get /alot/ of clicks on an egg, it would become sick, then you'd get the neglected one. Not positive, though.

Unfortunately not. To avoid problems with art theft all the dragons on here are "live" in the game. As eggs grow up or die the longest any egg could stay on here for is seven days. There are a few pages that do that (check google), but the DC artists can close them down.
