Dragon Cave - A Catalogue of Dragons

The lens works with DragonHatchery and DragonBreeding to provide an insight into the Dragon Cave game. This is not designed to be a comprehensive list of Dragons, and some will not have images.

The only images used here are from my scroll or used with the scroll owner's permission (which will be stated). This is simply designed to give users an idea of the range and type of Dragons available in the game, and new players an idea of what to aim at! (Graphic from webweaver)

Happy Hatching!

To avoid breaking the rules, I am not posting pictures of eggs or hatchlings on here - finding out what egg turns into what dragon is up to you.

La Femme Draconis

Not all Dragons have different male and female sprites. However a good collector will get one of each anyway, since there is a project in the works that will do exactly that in the future!
**Update: Many Common Dragons now have different male and female sprites**

Common Dragons can be collected from the cave, breed with any Dragon of the opposite gender and are usually easily produced. These are the core of Dragon cave - without Commons on your scroll you will have trouble breeding Dragons.

Originally all had the same sprite for male and female, but after La Femme Draconis project, different sprites have been created for several types.

Known types:
Black
White
Red,
Green

Mint
Blue (Water)
Stone
Fog (Grey)
Guardian
Skywing
Magi (Orange)

Bright Pink Dragon

These two species were originally common dragons which were female only, making them useful for balancing your scroll.

The Bright Pink Dragon was originally simply the Pink Dragon. It has been replaced by the current Pink Dragon (which has both genders) and is no longer available either through breeding or cave. The Bright Pink Dragon does not have the Influence Ability of the current Pink Dragon.

The Purple Dragon was originally female only. However in 2010 a male purple dragon was drawn and released, making the species a standard common dragon.

Discontinued Dragons

No longer available

A Frill Dragon

Sometimes a Dragon has to be removed from the game, or simply discontinued where no new dragons of that type can be created. This can be due to copyright issues, a revamp of the breed, or simply updating the artwork.

Bright Pink Dragons and Frill Dragons (shown left) are two examples of this.

Common Dragon Powers

Adult Dragon abilities

In 2010 a change was made to the game. After requests were made to have a use for Adult dragons, rather than simply presence on a scroll, several species of Dragons gained additional abilities. These are available through their Actions page:
Those known so far are:
Pink Dragons - Influence Can influence the gender of an egg
Green Dragons - Earthquake Either hatches or kills all your eggs
Red Dragons - Incubate Makes an egg hatch faster
Vampire Dragons - Bite The only way for this species to reproduce.

Variant Dragons

Dorsal Dragons

A new common

Known types:
Red
Purple

Hatching from almost identical eggs, there are variations of Dorsal Dragons currently available. Currently I have two examples:

Seasonal Dragons

Known types:
Spring
Summer
Autumn
Winter

Seasonal Dragons are commons, but depending on what time of the year you breed them you can get different Dragons. As with other Commons, they can breed with almost anything. Breeding two seasonals together seems to be the easiest way to produce another seasonal dragon.

Striped Dragons

Known types:
White Striped
Red Striped
Blue Striped
Green Striped
Black Striped

Striped Dragons come in a range of colours, which can also be created by breeding e.g. The red striped dragon below was created by breeding my white striped with another dragon type.

The Black Striped was introduced a little while after the main set, and Striped Dragons now have different male and female sprites.

Uncommon Dragons

Rarer Breeds

Uncommon

Uncommon Dragons can be got from the cave, but are rarer than the common dragons. They rarely have breeding restrictions and can interbreed freely.

Other uncommons include Magama Dragons, and a range of others:

Hellfire Wyvern

Nebula Dragons

There are four different types of Nebula Dragon, all of which hatch from one identical egg. Green and red are missing from the examples below:

Rare Dragons

Rare Dragons

Silvers and golds

Known types:
Gold
Silver

Rare Dragons can be got from the cave, but are harder to acquire - maybe only one or two are dropped out of the hundreds of eggs in each cave drop. They can be bred, but Rare Dragons cannot breed with each other, only with Commons. Several have different male and female sprites.

Two Headed Dragons

Splits

Known types:
Blue Split

Unusual and somewhat rare to see in the cave, two headed dragons can only breed with other two headed dragons, making them an exception to the usual rule about rares breeding with commons.

Drakes

A subspecies of Dragon

Adopt one today!

Adopt one today!

Drakes can only breed with other Drakes, not Dragons. If you only have one Drake on your scroll you will not be able to breed Drakes.

There are two types of Drake, Glory Drakes and Ochre Drakes. While Ochre Drakes are comparatively common, Glory Drakes are rare and hard to get hold of. Glory Drakes are further split into Night Glory and Day Glory Drakes.

Pigmy Dragons

A class of Mini Dragon:

Male
Pigmy Dragon

Female
Pigmy Dragon
Adopt one today!

A type of smaller dragon, pygmy dragons can only breed with other pygmy dragons and the much rarer Pumpkin Dragons, although they are reasonably frequent in cave drops.

As of June 2011, there are now entire Subspecies of Pigymy Dragon. All of these can interbreed with each other, or the Pumpkin Dragons, although Pumpkin Dragons will only produce another pigmy, except at certain times of the year. (shown female/male)

Event Dragons and More

Special Dragons

Papers, Chickens, and More

Known types:
Cheese Dragon
Chicken
Paper Dragons

These can only be got from the Cave and aren't breedable.
Paper Dragons, and Chickens among others fall into this category. They are in extremely high demand and can be difficult to get as they are as rare in the Cave drops as Golds, and can't be bred.

To get one you have to snag it from the cave or, if you are exceptionally lucky, from the abandoned page.

Dinosaurs

Known types:

Purple Dinosaur

A special type of non-breedable egg, the Dinosaurs were brought in to replace a copyrighted sprite in the early game (no prizes for guessing what!). Collectable from the cave, or if you are lucky, the abandoned page.

Event Dragons

A Christmas 2009 Dragon

These Dragons are released for special events, and often only available through the Cave. There is often a limit on how many of them you can snag - e.g. for Valentines, if you grabbed three eggs, one would be removed from your scroll and sent back to the cave.

Event Dragons may be breedable only on the day of the event. Some, such as Halloween have different male and female sprites.

A Female Halloween Dragon

Originally released as a one-off dragon for Halloween 2008, the Vampire Dragon artwork proved so popular that they were revised and brought into the game as fully fledged Dragons.

Vampire Dragons cannot breed as other dragons do. Instead they have a "Bite" command. Every four weeks you can use the "Bite " command on one egg on your scroll. That egg will either die or turn into a Vampire Dragon. However, there is a chance that the egg will be removed from your scroll if the bite is successful, as the other dragons reject it.

Others

There are other, less easily classified Dragons in the Cave, and a range of them are mentioned below:

An Alt black.

Alts
Sometimes breeding a black or vine with another dragon will produce a Dragon that looks different as an adult (the eggs are indistinguishable).

Variants
These are new dragons, which when they are eggs have exactly the same description as an existing type of dragon. However they are bred from another species, and look slightly different. If you get something that is described as an existing species but doesn't look like it, hold on to it! You might have a variant.

GeodesAdopt one today!
Breed two Dragons of the same type together and get an egg of another kind. Hold onto it and see what hatches. That's all I am saying.

Neglected Dragons

Apparently at least one of these has been re-introduced, but is exceptionally difficult to get. I don't have either.

New Dragons
Three new dragons These have been labelled "Legendary dragons". It remains to be seen which class of dragon they fit into.
