Dragonsdale Review

In my 12 year old's words:

Dragonsdale is a nice book revealing an enchanting place. If I could only go to the places in books, I would love to go to Seahaven.

It is easy to see the love between Cara and Skydancer, to see how Drane would find it hard to fit in at Dragonsdale, and to feel the pressure Breena is in at the Island Championships. You can almost hear the predators howling and Sky hissing during the attack in the hills. Truly a well descripted book.

Dragonsdale is the story of Cara, a girl who dreams of riding the unridable dragon, Skydancer, who is her best friend. Never allowed by her father to ride after her mother died in a riding accident, Cara is determined to prove him wrong, and begins training Sky in secret.

As the story goes, the dragons of Dragonsdale come from a very old race of dragons that were domesticated many centuries ago. Like horses, they are now kept in stables and used for riding or in riding competitions.

Here is a stable of Dragons to populate your own Dragonsdale Farm. Choose your favorite characters and fill up your stables....

As Cara says, the stables of Dragonsdale Farm can not be made out of wood. If a dragon sneezed the whole thing would go up in flames! To solve this problem, Dragonsdale Stables are made of Rock with metal fences.

You can turn your stable into a stone stable by painting all the doors with steel gray metal paint and gluing stones to the outside of the stable. The inside can be painted with a lighter gray paint. Add circles to represent the stone walls on the inside if you like.

Important!

Firedogs of Seahaven

A deep red glow, like the inside of a furnace, burned between their savage teeth, and liquid fire dripped from their jaws, hissing as it struck the waterlogged ground.

Firedogs, Howlers and Pards (Oh my!)

So what are these creatures?

Get to know the other inhabitants of Dragonsdale:

Firedogs

Firedogs are vicious predators living in the hills of Seahaven. They are described as looking like dogs with short fur and spines on their backs. Lava represents their slobber, and they are very drooly. You wouldn't want to be bitten by one of these!

Howlers

Howlers are howling predators with leathery hides. They fight over territory with Firedogs. The description in the book was questionable, but that opens a door for imagination.

Pards

The only real description of pards in the book is that they are feline. I myself imagine them as bobcats with tails and specially fierce eyes, slightly bigger than a bobcat, and as deadly as a tiger, especially in their packs.

don't miss it!

Dragonsdale
Chicken House
Salamanda Drake is sixteen years old and lives with her father, a dragon-trader, in the Isles of Bresal.

Her love of dragons began at the age of three, when her Da began taking her to fairs and showings around the islands. Discovering she had a special way with even the most unruly of creatures, she soon learnt that (in her own words) The only way to train a dragon is to be patient and never give up.

She spent much of her free time sweeping, grooming, and exercising her father's dragons. Salamanda has a Trustbond with Hillsweeper, a Firecrest dragon, and they are now competing at showings. They have high hopes of representing Finnglass at the All Bresal Championships.

Salamanda's other great love is writing. She discovered her talent following a serious riding accident at the age of thirteen.
