About Dream Weaver

Under the Dream Weaver's Spell | Sarasota Magazine
"I can't believe I've lasted this long in the fashion business and kept my sanity," McKeon quipped as she celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Dream Weaver Collection with longtime supporters of her Art to Wear concept.

Maria Pinto, the Chicago-based designer whose trunk shows have played annually to standing room only crowds at Dream Weaver on St. Armands Circle and will do so on January 22 and 23 -- right after the inauguration. What timing! Michelle Obama wore Pinto's clothes way before the campaign began, and Pinto may well be in the running. Dream Weaver's founder Joan McKeon says the collection is a hit in Sarasota because it's the essence of urban chic. "Our customers get it [urban chic]: they're sophisticated women who travel - we don't sell to kids," McKeon explained.

Modernist Jewelry 1930-1960: The Wearable Art Movement (Schiffer Book for Collectors)

By Marbeth Schon

This well-written book explores the work of 175 of the most important American modernist artist jewelers through a comprehensive text and more than 540 color and 35 black-and-white photos. Beginning with the streamlining of Art Moderne, modernist jewelers mirrored the consciousness of their age. They were free thinkers, artists who broke away from the mainstream of jewelry design and looked to the fine arts for inspiration; they were Surrealists, Cubists, and Abstract Expressionists functioning as sculptors in small scale, painters in enamels, and architects in miniature.

The Fiberarts Book of Wearable Art

By Katherine Duncan Aimone

The Fiberarts Book of Wearable Art

Amazon Price: $14.99 (as of 05/26/2012)Buy Now

Only a fortunate few can afford wearable art. For the rest of us, this book provides an overview of current trends in the field and includes profiles of 39 prominent fiber artists, with generous samples of their work and insight into their working methods. Artists working in wearable art create their own fabric and/or use the surface or contours of preexisting fabric as a canvas for creating one-of-a-kind or limited-edition garments. Wearable art surprises the viewer, whose eye may be drawn to a flowing silk shibori fabric or an incredibly complex loom-knitted gown with hand-crocheted embellishments. Attesting to the current popularity of shibori, much of the text is occupied by garments that use this Japanese technique for shaping, securing, and dyeing cloth.
