Unfortunate weather in the 1970s, followed by political change in Guyana in the 1980s, caused a sharp rise in the international price of sugar cane. Soft Drink companies panicked at their increasing production cost and started using High Fructose Corn Syrup instead of the Sugar Cane that their original recipes called for.
Dublin Dr. Pepper decided that they would continue using Cane Sugar, regardless of the cost. They are the only Dr. Pepper bottler that has always used pure Cane Sugar.
