Learning the Dutch Language
If you're making a trip to the Netherlands or Belgium, you'll be surprised to learn the language is not that of surrounding countries. Typically, German is the most widely spoken language in that area of Europe. Dutch is a very similar form of German and sounds a bit Scandinavian when pronounced by the natives. However, Dutch remains the primary language of the Netherlands and Belgium, and it would only benefit one making the journey there to learn the basics of Dutch.
Some people would say Dutch is considered a "harsh" language, meaning that it has a cold accent and is pronounced using the back of the mouth. However, Dutch uses an alphabet very similar to the English language and shares a similar foundation. And like the German language, Dutch recognizes three genders in reference to grammar - masculine, feminine, and neuter; but some dialects of Dutch only use two genders, common and neuter. While it sounds confusing, the concept of Dutch is actually quite simple and can be learned fairly quickly.
