Dwyane Wade Dunking or How to Increase Vertical Jump

Did you see Dwyane Wade's dunk over Bruce Bowen, over Jamal Crawford or Kevin Garnett? How about his putback-jam against the Hornets (8.11.2008)?

Right, Flash got mad hops! In fact, D-Wade may be one of the best on-dunkers in the league! And in case you didn't know, the guy is only 6-4 but has a 38-inch vertical!

So, what's his secret? Just ask the shooting guard who's the best player in the NBA.

"LeBron James. I like it better that way," says Wade. "I need a rabbit to chase. Because if I keep fighting, I'll only achieve greater success. It's all about dedication, about having goals in your life."

And that's exactly the attitude you need if you seriously want to increase your vertical. Because you can't do it over night. It's a lot of work. But it's a lot of fun too. When you will dunk, when you will throw down a reverse, a 360 the first time, you will understand why. But first, you need to work, to train real hard.

There are a lot of exercises that work. Here are some:

- Depth Jumps

Get a chair or a box and ensure it will remain stable. Get on the chair (2 to 3 feet high), drop off with both feet and as soon as you land, explosively jump back into the air. (3 sets x 10 reps)

- Burnouts

Elevate as high as you possible can on your tiptoes to assure that you work the high end of your calves. As quickly as you possibly can, jump repeatedly no more than 1/2 to 1 inch off of the ground making sure to keep yourself elevated as high on your tiptoes as possible ensuring that you are working the upper calf muscles. (2 sets x 200 reps)

- Thrust ups

Begin with your legs straight, bounce up as high as you possibly can and when come back down you thrust at once back up trying not to bend your legs. (5 sets x 20 reps)

For more exercises and crucial things to know about vertical jump (f.e. why often what you "don't" do is more important then what you "do" do) please take a look at this page I strongly recommend:
