Dyslexia Symptoms
'Is my child dyslexic?' is a frightening question for parents to ask themselves but if your child is struggling school then it may well be a question you need to face up to. Dyslexia is a difficult condition to diagnose and the signs of dyslexia can be subtle. However don't worry about the specific dyslexia symptoms because this is an issue for educational psychiatrists.
The question parents need to ask themselves is 'Does our child seem normal?'. Many parents have been convinced that something was not right with their child only to be reassured by teachers and specialists that its just a phase the child's going through. Only for the same teachers and specialists to come to the parents several years later and say "I think your child has dyslexia symptoms". Parents - trust your judgment and don't be put off by teachers. You know your child.
Once suspected, formal dyslexia diagnosis and testing. Depending on the situation there are several avenues of approach. Diving straight in for a formal diagnosis can be expensive so investigate some of the online or software based tests. These are cheaper and quicker. Only once you good evidence of dyslexia is it worth going for a formal statement of diagnosis that can give you the specific type of dyslexia.
Even before the dyslexia symptoms have been diagnosed it is worth looking at the range of dyslexia treatments. There are many dyslexia treatments available. Many are designed to teach reading to dyslexics. Other focus on the balance and coordination in an attempt to tackle the root causes of dyslexia. Some offer apparently easy ways to tackle dyslexia through dietary supplements such as omega-3.
