Well, eBay DID IT AGAIN! This is a List of eBay Sellers who WILL Still Accept Checks and / or Money Orders or Other Forms of Payment (Who knows? Some may even sell 'outside' of eBay!)

Well, eBay did it AGAIN!

I am inviting ALL eBay sellers who will still accept alternative forms of payment to sign in here with your seller I.D.(s) in hopes to inform the BUYERS.

On August 20, 2008, eBay announced that they are moving to 100% electronic payments. (credit cards, ProPay, or PayPal)

Sellers will no longer be allowed to accept checks and money orders on eBay, they announced.

It is my understanding that sellers will not even be allowed to "MENTION" checks or money orders in their descriptions. (If I am mistaken, please let me know!)

Although they did not give a specific date, the announcement gave a general date of: "starting in late October, 2008".

They also stated that buyers can still use these payment methods for item pick-up, at the seller's discretion.

WHAT BUYERS NEED TO KNOW

BUYERS: If you buy on eBay, you may or not know about these changes.

In the past, sellers have been forbidden to mention in e-mail exchanges certain other forms of payment - such as Google Checkout, CASH, etc. - to buyers, as well as where else they may sell their products.

BUT, if a potential buyer happened to ASK, then the seller 'could' tell you if they sold on "Craigslist", for example.

The KEY was, the BUYER HAD TO ASK FIRST! (If I have my facts straight)

I am sure when these changes go into effect, sellers will also be forbidden to mention checks / money orders in e-mails to potential bidders / buyers.

I am HOPING many sellers will place their Seller I.D.s here to let you know who is open to other forms of payment!

ONCE AGAIN, BUYERS NEED TO ASK SELLERS FIRST!

That said, I am sure there are sellers who stick to all the insane rules eBay has been rolling out this past year (2008). You may find that you can ask a seller, but some sellers won't be very receptive to your questions. This is to be expected, so don't let it ruin your day!!

BUYERS - WE UNDERSTAND YOU MAY NOT WANT TO USE PAYPAL ONLY!

Many of the eBay sellers COMPLETELY understand that many BUYERS prefer to send checks, money orders, or use alternative methods of payment.

I know! I still won't sign up for 'online banking' or 'auto-pay', for example. I don't care HOW popular or "paperless" or "convenient" they tout. Stuff happens. Computers break down. Coomputers get hacked. Personal info gets compromised...

I know it's a pain when you are 'forced' to "sign up" everywhere you go.

You may see just ONE little item you want, and now you're "FORCED" to sign up with some pay site just to buy that $5.00 item?!!!

Maybe you are like me - 'old-school' - and just like simple, easy, hassle-free, and WITHIN YOUR COMFORT ZONE.

Whatever your reasons are, they are yours...and you have every right to them.
Maybe you refuse to own or use a Credit Card - like my Father.
Maybe you refuse to own a Debit Card - like me.
Maybe you don't have a bank account.

Maybe you just want to buy that widget with a check or money order!

My hopes are to get many sellers listed here to give BUYERS a 'GUIDE' to who WILL accept checks or money orders.

WHAT BUYERS NEED TO KNOW - PART 2

First, many SELLERS are also BUYERS on eBay.

Many BUYERS have never sold on eBay. For those of you who have never sold, here is something more you need to know:

eBay and PayPal have been changing a LOT since 2006 (give or take). They have been inplementing more and more 'rules' and charging more and more fees to the seller.

Sellers are charged for every item they list - whether it sells or not.

Sellers are then charged AGAIN if the item does sell. The 'new rates' will soon be up to 12% of what the item sells for.

Sellers are charged a THIRD time when they accept Paypal for payment method.

So sellers are getting charged 3 separate times on anything they sell - IF buyer pays through PayPal.

Sellers are not happy with the myriad of changes eBay/PayPal are implementing.

To show how 'unhappy' many are, next time you (BUYER or SELLER) visit eBay, take a peek at the "Discussion Boards" - "Seller Central" is a good place to start, for example.

PLEASE BEAR WITH ME - THIS SITE IS NEW

TRYING TO GET THIS INFO OUT ASAP - THERE WILL BE BLANK SPOTS!

I know - not many frills here yet on this site. It is a 'work-in-progress'. But I thought it important to get sellers listed here starting NOW - who will still be happy to take checks, money orders, etc., before the new mind-boggling RULES go into effect.

SELLERS - PLEASE REVIEW THE "ROOT" CATEGORIES BELOW, THEN SUBMIT YOUR INFO BELOW!

If you are an eBay seller who wants to continue accepting checks or money orders (or 'other'), please check these "ROOT" categories as listed below, then go to the 'Guestbook' to request our seller I.D. placement.

Please keep it short and simple. Thank you!

Hey there! Great lens you have got here to talk about eBay paying modes. I don't agree eBay accept only Paypal. They have stolen me a lot of money, not only in commisions. If a buyer withdraw the payment Paypal doesn't fight for the seller so it is the seller who loses the money!
Great stuff! ;) I've given you a 5 star rating for your lens. I've got a lens setup on where I talk about how newbies can make their first dollar online with Guru Assassin. Feel free to take a look and let me have your comments. ;) Cheers!

sknce I WILL NEVER USE credit or debit cards EVER. I am a person who will generally pay for all purchases with CASH; and this is MY PERSONAL CHOICE, as a tax paying United States Citizen who has been a longstanding Ebay member which sports 100% feedback noless; I will find other means of online shopping from folks who WILL NOT take away my personal choices. When "Buyers and Sellers" choice are taken away; their sales will certainly falter; as will Ebay itself; eventually. Time for somebody to invent a super popular alternative, and soon!!!

Totally agree with above blurb. I will not be using Ebay anymore, period. I understand Ebay's reasons for doing this but it will certainly cut their clientel by a large margin & its pissing me off to no end. I have 100% positive feeback as a buyer on Ebay, its really their loss that I won't be buying with then anymore. I will NOT be signing onto PayPal just bc PayPal has bought Ebay off to get more clients. I won't be a sheep.

Until Ebay accepts money orders again as a payment option I will not be an Ebay supporter.
Ebay tried this same thing in Austrailia but the courts threw the case out. Ebay WILL suffer immensely on account of this.

"Ebay" by Weird Al Yankovic

"I want it that way" by the Backstreet Boys is parodied by the excellent Weird Al Yankovic "Ebay" song - synched to the videoclip. I must admit Ebay is very much the way he describes it in the song. Don't take it too seriously; just enjoy! btw I actually love 'Star Wars'.
