The researchers found that there is no evidence that restricting chocolate will stop heartburn. The Sun UV Light and Skin Damage- How Xocai Can Help
The largest organ in our body is skin. It protects us from light, heat, injury, and infection. Skin is vital in regulating body temperature and preventing dehydration. Skin varies as we age but also skin is definitely impacted by exposure to the sun and UV light. There is more and more suntanning occurring in our society both outdoors as well as in tanning booths as we try to look "healthier". The damage is occurring resulting in
dry skin, more wrinkles, age spots and skin cancers. We are seeing more skin cancers than ever before because of our exposure to UV light.
We need to protect our skin from the havoc UV light can play on our skin. The damage exists year around and the damage builds up each year. The key way to help protect the skin is by using the appropriate sunblocks and using them frequently. The sunblock needs to block both UVB and UVA light.
The new information just being touted is that high levels of flavanols in cocoa can help protect the skin from UV damage. Vitamins and various nutrients have been used for years for protection. Often times the UV exposure we have is during times when we are not wearing sunblock or any type of skin protection. It is important to be consuming dietary products which will protect our skin during the times we are not covered in suntan lotions.
The mechanism causing the damage at the cellular level in our skin from UV light is complex. The UV light triggers photochemical pathways which damage the lipids, proteins, and DNA in our cells. There is a cascade of damage from early redness (erythema) to premature aging (wrinkles) to actual skin changes (actinic keratosis) with the end result of skin cancers. We need to stop this destruction at a cellular level in order to protect the skin. The oxidation of the skin needs to be halted.
Various flavonoids have been studied with great improvement in skin conditions. The flavonoids act as antioxidants stopping the oxidative process but they also change enzyme activities, improve inflammation, and affect cell division. There is a lot o scientific evidence confirming the fact that dietary flavonoids may provide protection from UV light and improve the quality of the skin.
A recent study was just reported from Germany investigating the benefits of cocoa flavanols on the skin. They gave two groups of women either a high flavanol cocoa beverage or a low flavanol cocoa beverage. They looked at skin sensitivity to UV irradiation, skin blood flow, skin structure and texture, and skin hydration. They concluded that the women who consumed the high flavanol cocoa beverage showed significant improvements in skin quality. They felt that regular consumption of cocoa flavanols may support the body's defense against UV light. There was an increase in blood flow under the skin and there was an improvement in skin texture, density, thickness, and hydration. The increase skin blood flow and the ability of the flavanols (epicatechins and catechins) to absorb UV light contributed to the improvements. Even at the cellular level the flavanols protected the DNA through cell signaling mechanisms. There is a the skin level a high level of free radicals which are neutralized by the flavanols. The redness (erythema) was significantly reduced , the hydration increased and the overall skin was markedly improved.
In addition to the cocoa flavanols, Xocai also has the benefits of the additional phytonutrients or polyphenols found in the acai berries, the blueberries, soy and the dark grapes. These polyphenols like genistein from soy, resveratrol from grapes and acai berries and other nutrients can also protect the skin from the UV damage. The additional vitamins and minerals definitely also improve the overall quality of skin. Xocai also with sunblocking agents and reduction to sun exposure can lead to beautiful skin and a reduction in skin cancers. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. That is what we are hearing a lot about in the news. Please remember that all chocolates are NOT created equally. Xocai is the only patented cold processed chocolate out there. That is why XOCAI is the healthiest for you. They may say they are HEALTHY dark chocolate, but check into how they were processed.
