Scholarship Fund: For Hard Workers

East-West Scholarship Fund...

As a graduate of East-West University I wanted to give back to the university that I spent four years in. I want to start a scholarship fund for students at East-West university based on hard work and academic merit. This is not a tax-deductible donation, but currently working on trying to make it one. NOR is this considered a non-profit organization or charity from a legal stand-point. But I stand to gain nothing financially, all earnings will be dedicated towards this endeavor. To contribute either buy items featured here, or forward the link to this page to get the word out! Donate by clicking, can't get any easier!

My Reason...

A burden facing any student is tuition. The hope of lessening the burden of students who are trying to further their education is a motivator for me. Education costs are high, time is limited, and jobs barely meet the cost of living for many people. I struggled as many students did, between studying insanely and working hard in work study programs. Since my class times didn't give me ample time to take a full time regular job.

This scholarship fund is not aimed at a certain ethnic group, or gender. Nor at citizen or non-citizen students. There will be no discrimination what so ever. I had a near impossible time qualifying for many scholarships because my religion didn't match the criteria, I was from wrong background or any number of things (such as race) that a person has no control over whatsoever! I hope to pick candidates based on financial needs and academic success and hard work.

East-West University was founded in 1980 as a private non-denominational four-year university. It is located in Chicago, Illinois. International students come from all over the world adding to EWU already multicultural student body. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) the university is dedicated to providing a top education to it's students.

There are fewer than 1500 undergrad students which makes it all the easier for developing a close relationship with faculty.

Why help by contributing to this?

With the receding help from financial aide over recent years due to the economy students are finding it harder to finance their education. Scholarships that don't discriminate towards religion, race, or affiliation are harder to find unless you know where to look. Add to that each individual student goes through difficulties that possibly further hinder their efforts of higher education. If one of these difficulties is financial, it would be one less hurdle in the way of keeping students on their path and away from dropping out. That is the importance of those who are able to help do so for those hard working students. If this generation is helped based not on only need but their hard work, that is encouragement for them to help those who come after them.

Criteria for the Scholarship

An explaination of some of them as well...

This is something that I have been wanting to put together for a long while now. These are the criteria for the scholarship:

1) 3.5 GPA
2) At least a second year student (if transfer 2nd quarter).
3) Is a Full-Time student.
3) Participating in Work Study program, or holding a job.
4) A member of at least one program/club/association at the university (Optional).

You may wonder why it matters to me if they are holding a job or part of work study.

The reason?
If you aren't working or a part the work study program that means you aren't putting forth enough effort to try and cover your expenses. The goal here is to help students who are trying everything they can to support their educational goals while keeping up their GPA. Getting a decent GPA is hard, but even harder when working.

As for the participation in university programs, clubs, associations... this is optional but not a must. Being active in the university means that you have one more thing to add to your resume, it means that despite work, and a full course load... somehow a decent GPA is being maintained.

Any advice, requests, comments, let me know!

I will gladly take any advice or comments into consideration to make this all the more successful...
