Eagle Ridge Vineyard

Livermore Valley Wine Country

Eagle Ridge Vineyard is one of the newest wineries in Livermore, located on the hills at the east end of the Valley. The winery has produced two wines with their label. The 2006 Pinot Grigio is made from grapes grown at Del Arroyo Vineyards, and is light with a melon, lichee flavor. The 2004 Petite Sirah has a beautiful rich color and pairs nicely with meaty dishes. The winery is a family affair with three generations working in the vineyards and tasting room. New vines planted on the estate will produce many more varietals in the years to come.

Eagle Ridge Vineyard is located at 10017 Tesla Road in Livermore, California.

The brand new tasting room features antiques and vintage advertising, gas pumps, winery and farm equipment, and other memorabilia. The winery will be celebrating its first anniversary soon and has special reason to celebrate. The 2004 Petite Sirah won a Bronze Medal at the West Coast Wine Competition, and will also be receiving a medal at the Bay Area Wine Competition. The awards ceremony will be held June 24 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.

I purchased this book at one of the wine festivals, and even had it signed by the authors. Don't worry if you're not into quilting... it's worth adding to your library for the photos alone. Several Livermore Valley wineries are featured, including Thomas Coyne Winery, Livermore Valley Cellars, Fenestra Winery, Wente Vineyards, and artwork by Darcie Kent.

My wife and I found Eagle Ridge by accident. The atmosphere was very friendly and the wine is fantastic. We left with a bottle of the Pinot Grigio ($18) that I can't wait to open. The Petit Sirah is one of the best I've had ($32) and was far better than any other reds I've had from Livermore.

The owner/winemaker told us that they are getting ready to bottle Zin and Cab. I can't wait!

The Petite Sirah is well structured and very nice. If this were a larger or more established winery the Petite Sirah would be getting much more notice. As it is, consider it a great find, and look forward to more from these guys.
