Social Media Making a Difference on Earth Day

Earth Day Birthday

In a world dominated by 'LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME' hyped up, over the top, marketing campaigns and corporate giants with mega bucks doing their best to hold the little guy at bay, a group of people came together to talk and brainstorm.

They talked about the way things were and what they did and didn't like about their business lives, they talked about the way marketing was done and businesses run and they talked about how they felt about all this. They all agreed that spamming, black hat marketing techniques, rogue auto-bot messages to social networks and slick, self-interest based promotions were not in the world's best interests and they were sick and tired of doing business that way just to keep up. Eventually they formed a mastermind group that met regularly and began to inspire each other about changing things for the better and how best to make that happen.

Ultimately they decided, 'If not for me, then who?' and took that to heart as they decided to take matters into their own hands and prove that things could change for the better and still be profitable. They dedicated and donated the little spare time they had and their blood, sweat and tears and passion into building their first campaign, a topic close to their hearts, they marketed an event that was already happening annually across the world. They re-branded it and turned their formidable talents to turning it into the largest media campaign the world has ever seen, and the biggest party ever thrown for one person across the world. The guest of honor - Our Earth!

These online marketers knew the power of 'word of mouth' and used it online turning it into 'word of mouse' and not only proved that Social Media was the wave of the future, but that it was the most amazing marketing tool ever known. Social media when used in a heart centred and passionate way can change the world. By being authentic, heart centred and adding value to the world one person at a time we can do business, not by using those same platforms to spam and advertise people who are there to socialize and create small communities.

This group of people understood the power of story, they knew that when I tell my story and express it from my heart, it will match your story in some way and we will then know each other and become friends. That feeling of community is not to be sullied by course advertising of products or services; it is to be valued and respected as a friendship every bit as real as a face to face friendship. When I am motivated by something that excites me we can discuss it as friends and you might also become excited by it and that is how authentic social marketing is done. Just like friends in the real world.

This group made an historical decision to create a company out of human capital contributions, and without financial capital, to prove that all it takes is a 'small group of thoughtful, committed people' to change the world. They invested their time, their expertise and their passion into a new business that would create history by turning the business world on its' head.

This group formed a company and continued to grow - they had active leaders and a growing list of evangelists who also saw the vision of authentic and value based marketing techniques. They fed hundreds of thousands through their Xmas Cheer campaign, then they turned their influence to the Earth, in the inaugural Earth Day Birthday Bash, changing the way people across the world viewed our earth.

The Earth Day birthday campaign crosses borders and unites the world under as one community if only for a day or a party. So what is Earth Day? Earth Day is also the only non-religious annual observance to be celebrated on such a grand scale across the world, on that day our world truly becomes a world without borders.

The first efforts for Earth Day were by John McConnell when he saw a picture of earth taken from Apollo 10, it so inspired him he had an Earth Flag created out of that picture and called it a 'Flag for all people.' McConnell is quoted as saying, "Loyalty to our planet can best be achieved through voluntary efforts to understand its life systems and processes, and then with love for our planet to help nurture and sustain the amazing web of life that covers our globe" (John McConnell 1985).

Earth Day has been celebrated since 1970, after the founder of Earth Day, Gaylord Nelson proposed the idea in the US to raise awareness amongst the people and compel the government to take environmental action. A massive 20 million people celebrated that first Earth Day, a massive result for a new campaign. As a result the, "US Environmental Protection Agency" was born and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts took place.

Earth Day eventually went global in 1990 with approximately 141 countries taking part in the celebration of our earth and highlighting awareness of our global need for a clean, safe environment, preservation of species and tracts of forests and bushland, for clean water and the latest the need to cut emissions to help prevent global warming.

Since that time, every year on April 22, the world gets together in celebration of our earth, to show the governments in every country that we care, and demonstrate our resolve by doing charity, organising and attending events, joining causes, ringing bells for peace, planting trees, donating time or money and much more. People are changing the way they live on a daily basis to become more environmentally friendly and lightening up their environmental footprints. We are all learning to "Walk softly on the earth," and leaving as little negative environmental impact as they can.

Many people, just like you want to help, to be a part of something, and 'pitch in' to a cause, but they haven't found just the right cause to do so. They have the energy and enthusiasm and just need a platform through which to channel it.

Having read our story, would you like to help? You could be a part of the Earth Day Birthday campaign right now, help us make history and tell your friends that you contributed to the worlds biggest party. From T-shirt designs, promotions, and organising events and parties - our Social Traffic group will guide you all the way. In fact all of those who opt in will get the chance to have access to the most up to date social media marketing tools including video lessons and Webinars all throughout the campaign. You will be assigned to a mentor who will help guide you through the process and your contribution to our Earth Day campaign.

You will learn how to dominate the search engines, use conversational marketing and social media effectively, plan and execute a marketing campaign, work as part of a team, and realize many of your goals.

You will be a part of a massive campaign on a global scale, helping to motivate millions of people to care for our earth, to show that caring by organizing a party with a purpose and making the world's governments sit up and take notice. We the people will have spoken with one voice during one global event, "This is our earth and we care."

Wednesday-Night - ยป Deforestation
On Wednesday, the third day of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, one issue that is high on the agenda is deforestation, as the United Nations works on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (REDD), especially concerning to delegates .... I adore the picture of the dancing bodies....I want to say dancing hot heads but that's the wrong description. Perhaps we could put some hot coals near them... and they'd be hotter?
Anyway, thank yo for another excellent article highlighting how Social Traffic takes the lead this year on EarthDay BirthDay.

We need to educate ourselves first before educating others. Parents need to set
high standards for their kids to follow, but most important governments around the
world must be seen to be doing so much more. I recently got involved with the save
the oragutan campaign and was shocked to hear that thousands of orangutans
have died at the hands of palm oil companies. The government of Indonesia is
guilty for selling to palm oil companies. 2.5 million acres of orangutan habitat will
be lost to these companies over the next 5 years. This is just 1 example of the
shocking acts of cruelty man has inflicted to these primates. If this continues we
will lose many species for good, a thought which is unthinkable.
