Doctors have so many treatments for acne. If the acne is stubborn and persistent, you may have no other choice but to go to a dermatologist. If, on the other hand, your acne is not severe, or just amounts to a few pimples, there are some acne remedies you can try at home.

There are things to avoid. Greasy lotions you put on your face should be replaced by non-oily ones. These include cosmetics, moisturizers, and sunscreens. You should steer clear of certain foods, too. Sugar feeds bacterial infections, so avoid it in your diet. Also to be avoided are fried foods, milk products, and products that contain iodine such as those salty snacks like chips.

Food to be enjoyed on an acne-friendly diet are whole, unprocessed food, plenty of vegetables and fruits, and foods with Omega-3 oils in them. These foods, along with plenty of water, will also help regulate bowel movements. Some say this helps in preventing acne.

There are vitamins and supplements to aid in acne remedies as well. Vitamin A reduces sebaceous oil production. Zinc helps prevent acne by reducing inflammation and lowering levels of androgen hormones. B6 can help with other hormonal causes.

Specific herbs have been used with some success in treating acne. One acne remedy is made by mixing sarsaparilla, yellow dock, burdock and cleavers in equal amounts to form blood and lymph cleansers. Tea tree oil works pretty well when applied to acne lesions such as pimples and the like.

Some acne remedies just seem to make sense. You should touch your pimples or acne as little as possible and should not pop pimples. They will pop quickly enough on their own, and with less scarring than if you do it manually. Men or older boys who are shaving will find that growing a beard may actually help with the acne. Another acne remedy is as simple as sleeping on your back to avoid rubbing your cheek or other parts of your face into the bedclothes.

Massage is thought to increase circulation and thus improve the skin. It can also be used along with other relaxation techniques to reduce stress. Exercise, breathing techniques, biofeedback have all been used. Some people reduce stress through yoga or meditation. Anything that relieves stress can't help but make acne remedies work better.

Acne that is not especially severe can be treated at home. All you have to do is to avoid certain substances and use diet, vitamins, and herbs to make acne better. Take a common sense approach. Find ways to relieve stress. If you use any or all of these acne remedies, and your acne is not severe, you should begin to see results.
