The first step to follow when you first join a forum is to create yourself an engaging profile. Create an avatar which is either a photo of yourself or a photo that relates to your particular niche. For example, if you have a niche of keeping and staying fit, include a photo of a fit looking person - hopefully yourself. If your business is in the basketball arena you could include a picture of a famous basketball player. And so on.
Then start sharing your knowledge and expertise and concentrate on answering other posts questions. You should avoid mentioning your site or your product for a while yet. When you join a forum you will be on hand to provide helpful solutions to problems and questions posted by other members.
