Words from the Artist - I love to make holistic art in tune with the Earth.  This helps to create a home environment of warmth and harmony.  I create stunning window mandalas and simple inspirational signs to influence mood and motivation.

Create Your Own Art - Buy some watercolor pencils and watercolor paper, trace a circle and use your intuition and emotions to fill in the circle.  Then use a paintbrush and water and go over your drawing to bring it to life!  Use this as a meditative process for wholistic healing especially during times of stress or life transition.  See how your circles change with your mood and feel the centering effect of working with the inner circle of your soul.

Circle & Self

Finding the Sacred Center

The Circle is the ultimate symbol of the sacred feminine. The symbol of the circle helps us to connect to the depths of our soul or "true self".

Ralph Waldo Emerson begins his essay entitled "Circles", with the statement, "The eye is the first circle; the horizon which it forms is the second; and throughout nature this primary picture is repeated without end. It is the highest emblem in the cipher of the world. St. Augustine described the nature of God as a circle whose centre was everywhere and its circumference nowhere."

Carl Jung studied the archtypal meaning of circles:
"The circle (or sphere) is a symbol of the Self. It expresses the totality of the psyche in all its aspects, including the relationship between man and the whole of nature. Whether the symbol of the circle appears in primitive sun worship or modern religion, in myths or dreams or in the spherical concepts of early astronomers, it always points to the single most vital aspect of life - its ultimate wholeness."

Labyrinth

Connect with the Earth to find your sacred center.

A labyrinth creates an energy field and is used for prayer and meditation. Look around and you are sure to find a labyrinth in your town. Many retreat centers and churches across America have cut these into the lawn or use indoor canvas paths.

A labyrinth is a good example of sacred circumambulation - or walking around the center. The quiet movement around and into the center of the labyrinth is soothing and steadying. It helps one to become more centered and mindful.

This labyrinth is located at Siena Center in Racine, Wisconsin and overlooks the shores of Lake Michigan.

Art Therapy

Healing your self through creative expression.

Taking the time to walk through a labyrinth gives your mind and body time to rest and find our center. Walking gives us time to slow down and enjoy our environment...nature.

As we grow older, we often forget to play. As children, we played all of the time and found much joy in life. Playing with color helps us to connect with joy.

Finding our center, and experiencing joy are good therapy. These things help us to heal. Take some time to slow down and experience your life. Each day is a gift, find yourself... a player in the middle of your life.

About KatieOfSiena

Artist and spiritual writer with a passion for Deep Ecology, Simple Living, and Spirituality

Being serious about living a simple life is not as easy as it sounds.  Simplicity thrives in open space and silence, two things that are rarely found in an American lifestyle.  I find that taking time to walk and connect to nature helps me to fall back into a natural rhythm.  The labyrinth and mandala practices also help me to center my thoughts.
