Instituut voor Milieuvraagstukken (IVM)

The Institute for Environmental Studies (Instituut voor Milieuvraagstukken, IVM) is the oldest environmental research institute in the Netherlands. Since its creation in 1971, IVM has built up considerable experience in dealing with the complexities of environmental problems. Its purpose is to contribute to sustainable development and the rehabilitation and preservation of the environment through academic research and training. The institute has repeatedly been evaluated as the best Dutch research group in this field.

International Centre for Sustainable Cities (ICSC)

ICSC does practical demonstration projects that show how urban sustainability can be implemented. The demonstrations deal with issues such as solid waste, water, sewage, land-use, transportation, housing, energy efficiency, social conflict and poverty. ICSC also creates and supports peer networks to share learning and disseminate ideas. As well, ICSC engages in high profile events to galvanize action on urban sustainability.

International Institute for the Urban Environment (IUE)

Het IIUE werkt sinds 1989 in internationaal verband aan brede, stedelijke duurzaamheid. Zij biedt haar opdrachtgevers vernieuwende, concrete oplossingen. Het IIUE werkt op vele schaalniveaus, van individuele woningen tot aan de integrale stad, waarbij participatie van betrokkenen en samenwerking met andere experts van groot belang zijn. Het IIUE is actief in allerlei fasen van planvorming: probleemanalyse, visievorming, ontwikkelen van actieplannen, en de vertaling naar een ruimtelijk schetsontwerp. Zij maakt hierbij gebruik van diverse, vaak zelfontwikkelde, methoden en technieken.

Milieucentrum Amsterdam (MCA)

Milieucentrum Amsterdam (MCA) is de koepelorganisatie van de Amsterdamse natuur-, milieu- en bewonersgroepen. Daarnaast is het Milieucentrum actief als tegenspeler en gesprekspartner ('counterpart') van de gemeente Amsterdam.

MILUnet

MILUnet is a network dedicated to the generation, collection, exchange and transfer of knowledge on the subject of Multifunctional Intensive Land Use (MILU) as a means to realise more sustainable (urban) development in Europe. MILUnet is the successor of the working party on MILU of the IFHP, International Federation for Housing and Planning. Members of MILUnet are European cities and leading European research institutions.

Het Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving (PBL) draagt bij aan de kwaliteit van de politiek-bestuurlijke afweging door het verrichten van verkenningen, analyses en evaluaties waarbij een integrale benadering vooropstaat. Het PBL is voor alles beleidsgericht. Het verricht zijn onderzoek gevraagd en ongevraagd, onafhankelijk en altijd wetenschappelijk gefundeerd.

Healthy Cities and urban governance

The WHO Healthy Cities programme engages local governments in health development through a process of political commitment, institutional change, capacity building, partnership-based planning and innovative projects. It promotes comprehensive and systematic policy and planning with a special emphasis on health inequalities and urban poverty, the needs of vulnerable groups, participatory governance and the social, economic and environmental determinants of health. It also strives to include health considerations in economic, regeneration and urban development efforts.

The Liveable Cities

Project van het netwerk van Europese steden (Eurocities), VROM, twee universiteiten en negen Europese gemeenten om de leefkwaliteit in Europese steden te verbeteren. Dat gebeurt door ervaring uit te wisselen en steden te ondersteunen bij het opstellen van duurzame plannen voor stedelijke ontwikkeling. De Europese Commissie wil weten of de Nederlandse Stad & Milieubenadering en vernieuwende werkwijzen van andere steden ook iets kunnen betekenen voor de steden in de EU.

Local Agenda 21 (LA21)

The Local Agenda 21 (LA21) Campaign promotes a participatory, long-term, strategic planning process that helps municipalities identify local sustainability priorities and implement long-term action plans. It supports good local governance and mobilizes local governments and their citizens to undertake such multi-stakeholder process. The LA21 process leads to the preparation and implementation of a long-term, strategic plan that addresses priority local sustainable development concerns.
The development of Local Agenda 21 and its subsequent endorsement at the Rio Earth Summit as Chapter 28 of Agenda 21. A 2002 survey found that more than 6,400 local governments in 113 countries have become involved in LA21 activities over a 10-year period. Through LA21, local governments are establishing stakeholder groups, developing local sustainability plans and acting on these plans.

Nu de Stad

Maak bouwen in steden aantrekkelijker, voer de bouwplannen uit die de steden versterken en maak de toekomst van onze steden tot inzet van de provinciale verkiezingen. Deze oproep doet de coalitie Nu de Stad! vandaag aan overheden, beleggers, projectontwikkelaars en woningbouwcorporaties. De coalitie bestaat uit een unieke combinatie van marktpartijen, overheden en stichting Natuur en Milieu en wordt gesteund door vele bedrijven en wetenschappers.

Ruimte x Milieu

De lokale overheden hebben in samenwerking met VROM een website ontwikkeld om het milieu- en ruimtelijk beleid beter af te stemmen in planprocessen.
De website vormt een 'ontmoetingsplaats' voor mensen die ruimte en milieu vormgeven. Het is tevens een praktische handreiking voor optimalisering van omgevingskwaliteit en bevat een overzicht van recent ontwikkelde strategieën, methoden en voorbeelden. Een groeiproces van vernieuwende ervaringen en inzichten bij de afstemming van ruimte en milieu.

Sustainable and Accessible Urban Landscapes (SAUL)

Sustainable and Accessible Urban Landscapes (SAUL) is a transnational action/research and development initiative to explore the role of socially inclusive spaces in the sustainable development of metropolitan regions, through six regional groups of transnational demonstration and pilot projects in London, Amsterdam, Germany and Luxembourg.
SAUL is a transnational partnership project involving partners from the six Metropolitan Regions shown in the adjacent map, part-funded by the European Union's Interreg IIIB programme for North West Europe.

Sustainability Centres in the North Sea Region

Sustainability centres are centres for knowledge of sustainable development. The project "Sustainability Centres in the North Sea Region" (SCNSR) is a multi-national initiative by knowledge centres in Britain, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. In 2000 the project will also involve centres in Denmark and Norway. De project is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Norway through the Interreg IIC North Sea Programme.
