Tips On Obtaining A Low Cost Ecommerce Merchant Account

In order for online business to generate sales, it is important that they have an good ecommerce payment solution in place. A good ecommerce merchant account solution includes accepting secure payments through credit cards. It is also very important that this entire transaction must be safe and secure, and not compromise your customers sensitive credit card data.

Currently, there are a variety of ecommerce solutions available on the market. One such option is to setup an ecommerce merchant account. Interestingly, many times, business owners will refrain or avoid this method as they believe that setting up a merchant account is a complicated and expensive process. However, there are ways of getting an ecommerce merchant account at a very low price, or even with a free setup! Some of those ways are mentioned below.

  • An ecommerce merchant account can be obtained without a huge cash outlay. It may take a bit of shopping around to find the lowest cost option. At present, there are many ecommerce merchant account providers in the market. So as to remain competitive in the market and attract customers, these merchant account providers often tend to reduce their setup costs or provide extra value added features at the same cost. Sometimes they even waive many of the setup fees.

  • Another point worth mentioning here is to compare the monthly charges from one provider to the next. Many times these monthly fees can be significantly different from provider to provider.

  • Be sure you inquire about the features that you're getting for your money from the merchant account provider. It is important to understand all these features before paying for them. Do not ask for any extra features that you may not ever even use. This will reduce some of the costs.

  • Another way of reducing costs is to never approach a third party provider for getting a merchant account. This is because the charges levied by a third party merchant account provider are almost always higher than normal. In many cases, you may pay double or triple the normal rate.

  • Be sure to be wary and avoid providers that have large setup costs and application fees. Usually, when a broker approaches you, the set up costs can range from $300 up to more than $750. However, the actual cost of setting up an ecommerce merchant account along with payment gateway and virtual terminal is normally not more than $200. The remaining money goes into the pocket of the broker in the form of a commission. Best strategy is to refrain from such brokers and save money. In most cases, these agents completely concentrate on their commissions rather than giving importance to your needs and providing necessary solutions. It is always a good idea to deal directly with a Registered ISO / MSP for a reputable processing bank. This will normally ensure that you have the highest quality of service, and the best cost structure available.

  • Be sure to check out whether the provider charges any hidden fees or not. At the end of the day, these costs can add up to a significant amount of money.

  • One great Registered MSP / ISO that offers a "Free Ecommerce Merchant Account" setup is Capital Merchant Solutions Inc.

It's ridiculous what some of the banks have been charging for merchant accounts. Your solution sounds a breath of fresh air. You're absolutely right though, if you are selling online then a good reliable merchant account is a must.
