Quick Flip Questions for Critical Thinking HelpsTeachers of All Subjects at Any Grade Level

An item doesn't need a high price to be a quality resource.

Several years ago when I got my Edupress dealer catalog, it had a new item in it -- a small chart called Quick Flip Questions for Critical Thinking I decided to try a few of them and listed them in my catalog. The results amazed me. It quickly became a best seller. Large school districts were ordering it in volume so they could give one to every teacher in the district. I discovered that professors were giving workshops and recommending that everyone in the workshops buy this little chart. Why is this inexpensive little chart so valuable to educators?

Quick Flip Questions for Critical Thinking

Flip Charts qualify for federal Title I funding.

This handy 5 x 5" chart started a stampede to get it because it took the work of Benjamin Bloom (see Wikipedia article below) and made it easy to understand and refer to. Quick Flip Questions for Critical Thinking was the work of Linda G. Barton, who based it on the original Bloom's Taxonomy. Although the content is available for free on the Internet, this little spiral bound chart can be held in the hand while teaching a class or leading a discussion. It doesn't take up much room on a teacher's desk when he or she is planning a lesson or writing a test. As you can see in the introductory picture, it has a separate page for each level of thinking in the cognitive domain. If a teacher wants to make sure her test or discussion questions and lesson plans cover each level, all she has to do is flip from page to page.

What's Inside the Critical Thinking Flip Chart?

Everything you need to organize your information and use it easily.

As you can see in the picture, each page is easy to flip open. On the other side of the page you open is a definition of the level of knowledge that page covers -- in this case, Comprehension. Under the definition is a list of key words -- verbs-- that tell how one would demonstrate mastery of this level of knowledge: eg. classify, explain, outline, summarize, etc. Under the spiral are open-ended questions that students would need comprehension to be able to answer.

What do you mean by "assorted titles'?

Is there more than one?

Yup! Quick Flip Questions for Critical Thinking was so popular that it soon had brothers and sisters. They multiplied like, well, squids. Before long, it was followed by Quick Flip Questions for the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy. And later on they decided it ought to be translated into Spanish, so we also have Repaso rápido de preguntas para pensamientos críticos

Edupress decided that this format was so popular they would use it for other subjects for which teachers needed handy references . So we now have charts for the multiple intelligences, writing domains, the six traits of writing, reading comprehension, the seven continents, using primary sources, activities for current events, understanding history, activities for character education, and a guide to the scientific method. Most people buy more than one title to take advantage of those postage savings. These things are so light that if you use my shopping cart it goes crazy. It doesn't understand about weight and calculates by number of items, so you will do a double-take when you see the shipping total. Just ignore it. The site doesn't process your order -- I do. And I lower the price to meet my real costs after I weigh the order. If you have any doubts, just bring your blood pressure down by asking for the real shipping price.

One more thing about pricing. My current price for each flip chart is $4.49 (subject to go up without notice if the publisher raises prices on me.) If you buy more than 100 at once (assorted titles), you get a volume discount which will be explained on the page I will soon send you to. The more you buy, the lower the price gets. The list price is currently $4.99. I accept school purchase orders or even take orders by phone if you don't like putting your CC information in on-line forms. I also take PayPal. Why not take a look at what's available now at my web site? To get to my shopping cart, just click the title links. The discount schedule is at the bottom of the page.

How do I know which version to get?

Quick Flip Questions for Critical Thinking or Quick Flip Questions for the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy?

Here's a dirty little secret between us. There is nothing new in Quick Flip Questions for the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy . The words for the headings have been changed, but "Creating" has the same material as "Synthesis" had in the original version, and everything else that appears different is just in a different order. Key words and questions are the same. So it really doesn't make a lot of difference which version you choose. It's a matter of personal preference.
