This type of letter is sent to the company for a job designation that has not been published as vacant like in a newspaper or other print or electronic media. This type of letter may be an attempt to land a job by describing the qualities and qualification that the applicant has which can prove helpful in the job post for which the application has been sent. This letter is usually accompanied with the CV and may explain the experience and qualification in detail and it may also describe that why this certain applicant should be considered for the post. Targeted Cover Letter :

A targeted cover letter is sent when a vacant job designation has been published and when a company is looking for new employees at certain locations. This type of letter should be more specific and should mention some reasons that why they deserve the post and reasons that how and why can they come up to the standards that the company might be expecting at that level. In many experts' opinion, the chances of getting the job through these types of letters are higher than first contact types because in first contact cover letters, the applicant is asking that if there is a post then consider the application. Recommendation Cover Letter:

A referral or recommendation cover letter is sent in case a specific candidate has been recommended by another business or person who may be respectable and prominent personality in that sector. This letter type is sent so that a candidate may let the employees know that they are the one who has been recommended by a person or business. This can increase the chances of getting a job because the employee is likely to give the referred person some priority because they may think that the candidate must have been recommended for a reason. It is advised to the candidate to mention the name of the referrer in the start so that the employee may realize it earlier that this is the person who has been referred.



Follow up Cover Letter:

A follow up cover letter is often sent after an interview to the company in an attempt to further state some reasons that why this specific candidate should be chosen. This letter can also include some of the person's quality that they may have forgotten at the time of the interview.     • A cover letter can be potentially compared with a sales letter. If the sales letter cannot fetch the attention of the reader then its purpose may not be served. It should be divided into parts and is recommended not to exceed a page length. And again, as said that a short cover letter can possibly help more than a long one with lots of descriptions because a company may not have a lot of time to review a long letter.



    • In a cover letter, some lines can be written that may show that the applicant is likely to remain in contact and pursue with the application. A line can be written be written that you may contact between the next couple of weeks to ask if any further information is required about the qualification and/or experience.



    • As a simple rule, it should also be kept in the mind that no lies should be written in the letter or any correspondence. Some people may write some false experience and work expertise but it should be known that the company is likely to know about the truth sooner or later. And if the truth is known afterwards which contradicts the claims made by the applicant then the employee's reputations can really drain down quickly. And they may also never refer that particular person to anyone. So just to add up to the credits, fallacious statements should not be made.


 

Though it may not make the letter better but it can increase the authenticity of the letter if it is signed by the applicant at the end if the letter is sent as a hard copy. If in any other form, then other method for authenticating it can be chosen.

It can help if each of these and other guideline are written as a checklist then it can help a lot. When a checklist is present, a person can easily check whether they have tried to utilize them and if any one of them has been missed unintentionally then necessary changes can be made. The changing part can be accomplished when the letter is reviewed later after being written. Reviewing can have many other benefits as well.
