About Egg Art by Karen

Pictured above is a sample of some of the Egg Art designs that my Grandmother, Karen creates. Shown are Jewelry Boxes, Wedding Eggs and other creative Goose Egg designs.

This picture is a sample of Egg designs made from Chicken and Duck Eggs.

And because Easter is a holiday where you may think of Eggs, here is sample of some of the Easter Egg designs she may yet have available.

History of Egg Art

The origin of Egg Art dates back to 722 B.C. when a Chinese chieftain gave painted eggs as edible gifts during a spring festival. In the thirteenth century, recorded history mentions painted eggs with intricate designs containing religious symbols and meanings. The Egg, thought to have great magical powers symbolizes the source of new life. The giving of decorated eggs has been an important tradition in the Old World for many years. It is given to express the love and friendship that lies deep in the heart of the Giver.

Details About Egg Art by Karen

All of the items in my store`s Egg Art Category, are hand made and take many hours to complete.

A Jewelry Box takes about 10 days to complete, because of all the different steps to making one. All the eggs are real eggs. The Eggs are either Goose, Ostrich, Chicken, Turkey, Swan, Emu, Rhea, Finch, Duck, Pigeon, Pheasant and other types. None of the eggs used for these creations were fertilized.

The prices of these egg designs is very reasonable, and includes very little for the time spent making them. Materials and the objects inside the eggs accounts for most of the cost of the egg creation. My Grandmother is unable to go to as many shows as she would like to, to sell these, so we thought we would try selling them online. I will offer a breakdown and explanation of the materials used in making the eggs below.

Materials used in Making these Hand Crafted Eggs
(All eggs do not have every material listed here, but is a more full explanation of what may be used.)

Trim Items:
Rhine Stone beads, Australian Crystal Beads, Pearl Beading, Gold Synthetic braiding and other kinds of braiding. (Gems are not real)

Interior Items:
Real Velvet and Satin Lining in Jewelry Boxes, Hand stitched to fit the interior of the egg. Different types of Glitter, Diamond Dust and Ballentine Beads. Most of the figurines are porcelain, or resin molded. Some are Brand names, like Precious Moments, Cherished Teddys, and will be stated in description.

Exterior Items
Many different Gold plated filigrees: from gold leafs, to gold roses, butterflies and stands. Bases can be made of brass, wood, marble, gold plated filigree, corian, and other materials. Some eggs are painted on the outside.

Different types of creations

Here are some examples of the different types of creations she makes.

Jewelry Boxes: (these are durable enough to be used for trinkets. My mom has one that's 20 years old and is still not broken and has been used for storage of here favorite rings.)

This Jewelry Box has an Egg in an Egg. The top compartment is made of a pigeon egg. The main part of the Egg is made from a Goose Egg.

The inside is lined with purple Velvet that was hand stitched to fit the interior shape of this egg. Most Jewelry boxes take about 10-15 days to complete, because of all the different processes, drying time, and steps involved in making them.

Jewelry Boxes are great gifts for birthdays. You can match the birthstone to the month of birth. Here is one that your could get for any occasion.

This Jewelry box would make a great gift for your sister. Not only the lid has been cut, but the front face of the egg, in order to add the cameo on the front.

These are just two examples of her Goose Egg creations.

This is the inside of the Egg with the angels on it, at the top of the page.

Other Egg Creations:

Easter Design using a Duck Egg

Wedding Goose Egg Design

Hanging Goose Egg.
Inside this Egg is a Birthstone tree (It was made by another crafter that makes these trees) that was specially made to fit the inside of the goose egg. This Egg also has the exterior painted.

Christmas Chicken Egg Ornament Desgin

I have many other designs in my store. Depending on how fancy the egg is and how much cutting is involved, to the expensive of the trim and the items inside causes the prices vary accordingly.
The smaller the egg, usually the less expensive.

I know that my Grandmother had to spend at least 2 years learning how to make these eggs. She learned this art from a friend in the early 80's and has been creating these for over 25 years.

I actually have an egg on my Christmas tree for each year I have been alive. They are beautiful and have held up since I was a baby. I really love having ornaments on my tree that inspire memories of my Grandma. Now my daughter has recieved 2. This will be a wonderful keepsake for her.

I made this page to answer any questions or comments you may have about these Egg Designs. My Grandmother has added items to these eggs for customers, and makes them special order if you don't see what you need. There is a lead time on all orders. (Jewelry boxes can take 10 weeks, smaller less complex designs take less time.) I know that she spends many hours just finding the items to fit the insides of these eggs.

Thanks for visiting.
