My Opinion/Hollywood Awards

For years, it has been the habit of the "stars" to pat each other on the back. Unfortunately, this has become a constant. Are they truly wrought with such low self-esteem that they must be recognized so often and told how wonderful they are? I think some intense therapy is needed here both for the "stars" and those who watch this incessant adoration.

I am sure you note that I put "stars" when referring to an actor, director, singer or any other type of entertainer. This would be because I feel that title is handed out all too often to people who don't deserve it. Give me a break, IN MY OPINION, William Shatner, David Hasselhoff, Pam Anderson, Paris Hilton and a plethora of others don't even meet the criteria for the word star. They have made millions of dollars off poor performances and, in Hilton's case, the fame that family money can bring. Have you ever heard Hasselhoff (known as The Hoff) sing? Sounds like finger nails being scraped down a chalk board! Who started this crap with The Hoff or The Donald???

These people are paid millions of dollars to get in front of a camera to protray another character and I realize that requires a talent. I am not even going to pretend that I could do it. For me, the thought of getting in front of people to do anything brings on a bout of nausea. I am not saying that it is not a talent to act, direct or sing. I just do not understand the hero worship involved.

These people, with their untold wealth expect things handed to them on a silver platter because of who they are and what they do. Why? Who are they to expect to get things for free or DEMAND certain things just because they live in the public eye ~ a place they have CHOSEN to be?

They bitch about the paparazzi yet sell the pictures of their new born children to them. If they were ignored by the paparazzi, they would bitch about that too. When you chose to go into that line of work, it comes with the territory and you know it. Don't pretend that it offends you.

I realize that there are many quiet personalities who keep their lives to themselves and I believe they deserve to be left alone. However, when you are caught for drunk driving, you go into rehab countless times, you jump up on a couch on the Oprah show and act like a blithering baboon, you physically attack someone who works for you or a fan or you go out of your way to be in the public eye, you deserve what you get.

I will admit that there are a few stars that have my admiration because of the work they have done. I would consider it an honor to meet Sean Connery, Robert Duvall or Robert De Niro. They have not always made the proper choices for the movies they have done but, all in all, they have entertained me. It is nice to see that they keep their lives out of the public eye and are not this weeks cover in the rag mags all the time.

I got a bit sidetracked with some of my thoughts so will now get back to the awards. I am waiting to see when they will present the award for the entertainer who forms the best looking turd for the year. I am thinking it may not be that far off.

The incessant flattery is enough to turn ones stomach. So much so that I stopped watching all award shows years ago and have no intention of watching another. They get judged in the rag mags on their performances, the clothing they wear, how they wear their hair, who they are married to, who they are divorcing. Who cares???? You don't have to purchase those things to know what is in them, just peruse the cover while checking out at any store.

When are we going to hand out awards to those people who deserve it every time they go to work? That would be the police officers, fire fighters, Paramedics, EMTs and volunteer first responders who go out and actually save lives, protect the public and save property. Where is the appreciation and award program for them? There isn't any!! These are some of the lowest paid public servants. Thank God they went into their jobs for the love of it and not for the adoration that they expect from doing it.

It is about time that we get back to reality. Entertainers are not Gods, they are not above the law, they do not have the right to treat people rudely, they do not have the right to lash out at people who try to approach them and they don't have the right to expect to walk through life on a red carpet.

I realize that many stars have given a lot of money to charity. That's fine and admirable. However, if I were making what they make, it would be easy for me too.

Award shows to watch a bunch of egomaniacs pat each other on the back and tell them how wonderful they are? Not for me! If you want to watch them, fine. My suggestion, however, would be to get a life by spending time with your family instead. Your rewards will be much greater.
