Hi I came across this site and decided to build an eub using this page as a starting point. Does any one have close up pictures of the neck/scroll and the body? I have made the lofting cutouts but my scroll looks larger than it should be. Also what is the spacing dimensions for the tuning keys?

Good job on this page. Electrifying stringed instruments is a fascinating subject. I've lensrolled this to my Cello Submarine: Deeply Classical turned Hot Rock,
Fiddlesticks--A Home For Violins, Fiddles, Violinists and Fiddlers, I Play Cello, Mark Wood - Rock Violinist, Violin Rocks! Rock Violin So Hot It's Cool!, Bluegrass Guitar and Fiddle,
Funny Viola Jokes -- Or is That Redundant?, Violin Care: Eleven Tips That Could Save Your Violin, and a couple other of my stringed instrument lenses.
    Thanks for the information!

    Hi Colin,
I went out and bought your book today and am working with my 10 year old on bass headstock designs and trying to get him to do the lofting - the bass after all is for him. Cool stuff! I hope he hangs in there till the end. Once I told him that Brian May of Queen and his dad built his guitar, he was sold!

He wants a rosewood fingerboard (not ebony) but I will see what I can find on ebay. The body will be maple (available locally). I am not sure if I want to use a tailpiece or rather use just a through body string going over a nut and a more simple bridge than a really high maple bridge. Any thoughts? Like a Dean or an NS?

    Hi Janika,

I actually have your website marked in the end of the book as a great source of electric upright bass parts. Hope you don't mind :)

    Hi Johnno,

The way the jig works is that the router stays still above the fretboard.

Under the router you have a hinged plank that swings across left to right, and as it passes under the router this cuts in an arc.

Above you will see a fretboard in the jig.

You will notice there are three beams under the router. Well the outside two ar the frame of the jig which the router can slide along. The middle rail is actually a strip of oak I was turning into a fingerboard. As the fingerboard swings left to right under the router it gets the bits you don't want routed lol

    Cheers,
    Colin Palfrey
