Elegance At Home

Ranked #22,367 in Hobbies, Games & Toys, #414,186 overall

Bet you thought "Elegance" meant "Rich". I have great news for you. Elegance is Not determined by Hollywood or by the Fashion industry. When it comes to our own personal tastes,"Elegance" is determined by my own opinion of Elegance.  Our homes reflect our unique personalities. Each room defines a part of each attribute in who we are. Our own self -esteem is tied into this in a complicated sort of way. I have an elegant bath. I have 'elegant' areas in my home. Not all of the attributes of my personaliity is the same. Consequently my home should be reflective of the different attributes in my personality. My family room is definitely "rock n' roll" to me. The fun side of my personality. Do you see the point?

Your home defines 'You". Elegance is in the eye of the beholder. You can have elegance in your home without being rich. In order to be successful you will need to be a smarted shopper. So put the big bucks away. Stay tuned to more definitive tips on Elegant Accessories for Home.

Visit my new web site where all this started.

What is Elegance?

Defining Elegance

The Dictionary defines el·e·gance as;
1. Refinement, grace, and beauty in movement, appearance, or manners.
2. Tasteful opulence(Wealth;affluence) in form, decoration, or presentation.
One can see from the second definition that someone has decided for you what "Elegance" is. And that only the wealthy and affluent(rich) have it. I am here to disagree. I am neither wealthy nor affluent. I live on a limited income and I dont have it. Key is: I got mine at a price I could afford not what "they" paid for it.

Elegance is in your mind and what you envision to be elegant. Stay with me...we will touch on this subject again.

Elegance Ingredients

Lets Start Here!

The Ingredients for Elegance.

1. A Clean Home- Basic Cleanliness

2. Vision- What do you see?

A.Objects- Furniture, Accessories, Heirlooms, Hand-me-downs, New Items, and Use what you got.

B. Your Opinion Counts- This is your house, not theirs. Who says you have to do it that way? Advertisements aren't always right.

Stay tuned. When I come back, we will deal with a Clean Home first. If this is important to you, then hurry back.

A Clean Home for Elegance

Got to start here or Elegance Wont Show Up.

Here's the test!

¨ 1. Spend 15 minutes sitting in your living room. What do you see? Pay attention to colors. Now look at the walls. What kind of things are hanging on your walls? Family pictures? Sports related items? Posters of rock idols? Scenery? Religious?

¨ 2. How about clutter in the room? Are things neatly organized? Or piled up in heaps on the floor or in the corners? Maybe you don't even KNOW what is "growing" under that heap of stuff. Is your living room a haven for four-legged "creatures"?

¨ 3. Now...let's smell. What kind of odors are present? Smoke? Dirty diapers, old food in the garbage? Pet odors?

¨ 4. Does this room reflect what is on your mind? In your heart and in your life? Clutter is a picture of what might be happening on the inside of us. If your whole house was clean, and your bedroom a mess, so that you only shut the door on that room, what could that be saying about you? That you tidy up the outer appearances, and that you have one area that needs some work, and you don't want anyone to see it.

¨ 5. Take the time to look at each room in your house! Pay close attention to what needs to be done. Ask yourself this...why do I have trouble in this area? Is this as important to me as the rest of the house? Do I think no one will see this?

¨ 6. When we care how our home reflects us, we tend to keep things tidy and everything in its place. I am NOT talking about baby toys on the floor. There is a difference between a lived in home and a dirty, cluttered mess. Do what ever it takes to make your "house" a home and not a pig sty. My mother always said , "There is no excuse for dirt, when there is soap and water." With modern conveniences and home products for cleaning, there is no excuse for a dirty house. If your "house" is a dirty place to live, it breeds repeating that behavior into the next generation. If your "home" is dirty, with improper morals and values, that ,too, breeds a repeating behavior.
For Elegance in the home, you have to start with cleanliness. What sense is there in elegant accessories when they are residing with dirt and clutter.
Remember,too:
MONKEY SEE. MONKEY DO. HOW DOES THIS APPLY TO YOU?

Vision- What Do You See When You Look at Your Home

Memories or New Trends

When you look around your home, what do you see? And what comes to your mind? Do you see things that remind you of family, your childhood? Or are you into all the new trends in furniture designs? Colors? Accessories?

Personally my home is eclectic. I do not follow trends. My home is a conglomeration of my life. Pictures of family, familiar and loved objects.

I see Memories. I see my family and all that we mean to each other.

My furnishings are designed by me, not the trends. I use the florals that are my favorites. Colors that appeal to me, not the industries. Furniture that is comfortable to me.

As an outdoor enthusiast I love birds, trees, leaves, flowers, gardens, the woods, the mountains. No, I don't live in a cabin, all though it may sound like it. But I do bring the outside in where ever I can. If I had my druthers I would have one side of my home all windows. Seeing the sunshine, the birds, the trees, the flowers, give me peace.

Your home should be what makes you peaceful, what makes your spirit at rest. If you cannot be at "home" in your home, at rest in your haven, then gather up the distressful things and get rid of them. Have a garage sale, invest that money in the things you love.

It is your life, your spirit, your home. Live it and love it the way you want.

Affordable Elegance

Show me some Elegant Items I can Afford for My Home

A collection of Vintage/Newer molds.
Did you ever use one of these? My mom used them alot. She was always making a jello salad mold to carry to church suppers or family gathers. My aunt did the same thing. She still brings them to family reunions.
You dont see these molds being used much anymore. How very sad. Times seemed to have changed. Everyone seems to be looking for something that has all the effort taken out of it. Now with the microwave so many things are done in about a "minute".
Lost is the art of beautiful color combinations, food presentations seem to be important only in the upscale eating places.
Folks that have been on cruises report the "beautiful" food they had to eat. Someone took the effort to make it "good enough to eat".
Collectors of these aluminum molds dont necessarily "use" them in food preparation. Most are hung on the wall for a colorful display.
If you have been into Cracker Barrel you know what I mean. They have things hanging all over the walls to give a sense of nostalgia to diners. Old things from the past create a sense of "home".
When times are hard, folks run to the comfort of home. Home is meant to be a "haven", comfort and consolation are found there. Most of the time that is. Not sure what your home is like.
These items bring back a sense of "home" and are very useable as well.
To see a closer picture you will have to go to my store.
How many do you recognize from the past? From your mothers kitchen, or maybe your aunt or grandma?

Highlight this link and paste it in your brower to see a better picture of all of these molds.

Your Opinions on Gas Prices. How can we adjust to this?

Ideas to Conserve Gas

There are some good ways to conserve the gas in your vehicle. Currently we live about 1/4 mi from the grocery store, department store, and pharmacy, as well as a few unique shops. Here is the list I am going to try to follow for the next month to see how much if any difference it will make in my gas usage.
1. First I plan to check the odometer for my current reading.
2. Going to combine all necessary trips in the local area.
3. Shop for the cheapest gas prices in the local vicinity.
4. Walk when I can to the closest places to do my business.

Do you have an idea? What are you going to do to save gas and money?
