Elvis recorded 20 Christmas songs during his career. 19 of them are on this CD in addition to 4 Gospel songs which were included on his 1957 Christmas album.
This collection combines the 1957 version of Elvis' Christmas album and his 1971 "The Wonderful World of Christmas" album. This is an excellent collection with one omission, it leaves off his recording of "If Every Day was Like Christmas" which was released as a single in 1966 and included on the 1970 repackaging of his Christmas album.
The songs recorded for the 1957 Elvis Christmas album are outstanding! Elvis is in top form for these songs and several of them have become Christmas classics still receiving radio play 50 years after they were recorded!
The rest of the songs from his 1971 "The Wonderful World of Christmas" album are good but not in the same class as the earlier recordings. Elvis' voice seems strained on a few songs and in general the material is not has strong as his earlier recordings. But still they are very good and certainly worthy of listening to during the Christmas season.
However, I would recommend that you buy the Elvis "White Christmas" (if you can still find it) or "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" CDs instead of this one; I think they are a better value. "White Christmas" includes every song on this CD plus "If Every Day was Like Christmas" and "Mama Liked The Roses" which were included on the 1970 edition of his Christmas album. The "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" CD does not include the 4 Gospel songs here, but it does include all 20 Elvis Christmas songs plus 4 alternate versions making it the most comprehensive Elvis Christmas CD available. Or if you really want an Elvis Christmas and Gospel collection you could spend a few extra bucks on his "Christmas Peace" release which includes his 20 Christmas songs in addition to 20 Gospel songs on 2 CDs.

The King of Rock & Roll recorded music for every occasion and has been packaged in every shape and size imaginable. This collection is a particularly generous overview (25 tracks!) of his many Christmas recordings and includes four previously unreleased alternate takes. Guests include the Jordinaires and the Imperial Quartet. Elvis didn't always receive the most supportive musical backing, but the musical fluff that sabotaged much of his work doesn't weigh down these tracks. His skill as a vocalist is in evidence on such tracks as "Silver Bells," "O Come All Ye Faithful," and "The First Noel." If you were to pick one Christmas Elvis release, this would be a wise choice.
Elvis Meets Richard Nixon
Always thought this was an odd picture: former U.S. President Richard Nixon shakes hands with Elvis Presley in the White House Oval Office on December 21, 1970.
Apparently Presley sent Nixon a 5-page letter explaining the he "loved his country and wants to give something back" by being appointed a federal agent at large, so he could fight the war on drugs. Presley wanted a Federal badge to go with others in his collection. Elvis decided to deliver the letter in person which he did, returning later that day, (wearing his purple cape) and meets with Nixon, showing the President his various badges You can almost imagine the conversation:
Elvis: I want to be an agent at large.
Nixon: Uh, we don't really have those.But we'll get you a badge.
The badge (with Presley's name on it) is on display at Graceland.

- nice work! Elvis is my 3rd cousin once removed on my father's side. My great aunt took care of his grandparents when they were sick, down Tupelo way, and growing up our whole family was nuts about Elvis. I never met him, but got to touch his grave at Graceland on the 5th anniversary of his death as I was living near Memphis at the time and got to go to the family cemetary there.
I have most of his songs, some on the old 45's. The world is a worse place without this icon of a man, who by all accounts was a sweet son, wonderful dad and great human being, despite all the stuff written about his drug abuse. 5****

- Elvis is an irresistible force. I would have voted for a song, but non-squidooers get "hey smarty". This was a pleasant visit, thanks for the memories! I worked in a residential care facility and pretty much have the movie soundtracks seared into my memory bank as they were often played. One sweet man was forever hopeful--with an exuberant, "HE'S ALIVE!".
