Employee Awards - 4 Reasons Why You Need Them

Who doesn't like to be rewarded for their effort? In the workplace, employee awards make very powerful motivational tools. When you reward employees for their effort, they reward you with continued hard work and achievement. Here are some reasons why you need employee award programs at your business.

Reason 1

Employees Want Awards

The first reason why your workplace needs to use employee awards is because your workers want to be rewarded. While your employees come to work to earn a paycheck and feed their families, they also want to be acknowledged for what they contribute to your business. This inspires them to work harder instead of just working to get a paycheck.

This is important because when your employees are happy, they will continue to want to work for you. This means that in the long run, employee rewards lead to greater employee retention. If you are facing a quick turn around of employees, look at your employee award program and see if it could be improved or fixed.

Reason 2

These Programs Save You Money

As with most managers, your budget is probably a major concern. You are probably wondering how you can afford to buy the plaques, trophies, awards, and employee gifts that are necessary to run a recognition program. Before you throw out the idea based on budget, keep reading...

See, having a recognition program in place will actually save you money. Without one, the only way to reward an employee is through verbal praise or monetary bonuses like raises. If it is not time for your employee's raise or you don't have money in the budget for extra bonuses and you need to reward him or her, what other choice do you have? Giving too many unscheduled raises could break your budget.

Also, because recognition leads to employee retention, you will spend less time and money searching for and training new employees. Your old workers will be happy working for you and will want to continue to do so!

Reason 3

Your Organization Will Benefit

The third reason you need employee awards is to benefit your entire organization. Remember, happy employees are productive employees. This means that the harder you work to keep your employees happy, the harder they will work for you. This means you will have increased performance as an entire organization.

Of course, for this to work your employee incentives will have to be distributed fairly. If employees have no idea how to attain rewards, they will not work quite as hard. You could clearly outline the different accomplishments you want to see in order for them to receive employee gifts and awards. This will increase motivation because everyone will have a chance to succeed.

Reason 4

Awards Programs Give You a Way to Say Thank You

As you know, there are those employees who are always working as hard as possible for your business, even without being rewarded. Sometimes as a manager you are looking for a special way to say "thank you" for all of the hard work. An employee awards program gives you the perfect way to say thanks!

The fact is, if your employees are used to receiving awards from time to time, they will not be surprised if you give an unexpected reward to someone. If employee gifts are a part of everyday life at your business, they will simply think that you are rewarding hard work as you do every day. They will be less likely to feel that you are playing favorites, but will instead feel that you are rewarding hard work.

Employee rewards are a win-win choice for your business. You, as the manager, win because production will increase and employees will be satisfied. Your employees win because they will feel that they are in a supportive, encouraging environment. At the end of the day, employee awards just make sense!

Enjoyed this lens on awards, it's funny sometimes awards are more memorable than cash bonuses... as long as it's not a toaster. Five stars bud.
