Energy drink cocktails - Hype Energy

DC Brands International Dickens Energy Cider, 16-Ounce Cans
(Pack of 24)

The Hype Energy Drink was recently introduced to the general public and I have a feeling it will do very well. The flavor mirrors that of energy drink giant, Red Bull, but is much sweeter and has a hint of blueberry to make it go down smooth. The aftertaste is pleasant with no traces of that nasty medicinal flavor that so many other energy drinks unfortunately have.
The formulation should definitely provide an energy kick. It features the energy drink standards-caffeine, taurine, b-vitamins-but also adds in ginseng and guarana. These herbal stimulants give the Hype energy drink an extra edge and will ensure anyone who consumes it will have energy to burn.
The exterior design of the Hype can reminds me of a cross between Red Bull and Nos energy drinks. It's bright, metallic silver but with a sporty logo that you'd imagine seeing at extreme sporting events.
The only draw back was the size of the can. I've said it before and I'll say it again, 8.4oz. cans aren't big enough for the diehard energy drink enthusiasts. 16oz. and even 24 oz. cans are slowly, but surely, becoming the standard. Of course, Hype has recognized this and released Hype X2, which comes in a larger size.

All in all, the Hype energy drink is a quality beverage. The taste is strong enough to wake you up, but not overtly powerful to make it inconsumable. You should get all the caffeine, taurine, and b-vitamins to get you through the day and the herbal ingredients are a nice addition for that extra boost.
Energy drink cocktails - GURU Lite
GURU Lite Energy Drink, 100% Natural, 8.3 Fluid Ounce Can (Pack of 24)
Amazon Price: $32.04 (as of 01/01/2010)![]()
"For all you "label freaks" like myself-Guru Lite is the best "energy drink" on the market (I just wish it was twice the size). The fact that it contains Stevia-over nasty sweeteners such as Aspartame or Splenda is a Huge plus (not counting all the other garbage thrown in those other drinks.) The taste is definitely an aquired one. But for a guy who was downing 3 Sugar free Monsters per day (and my liver enzyme count showed it)...Guru lite has been the perfect replacement...(and my enzymes are back down to normal!!) Let that be a warning to those of you energy drink junkies slamming down 2-3 drinks per day.
Overall-Guru Lite is a great product-and while I love the taste of regular Guru, I'll take the 10 calories and no sugar versus 100 calories and 25 grams with the regular."

Energy drink cocktails - College students
College students who drink alcohol mixed with so-called "energy" drinks are at dramatically higher risk for injury and other alcohol-related consequences, compared to students who drink alcohol without energy drinks, according to new research from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. The findings were reported today at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association in Washington, D.C.

(Pack of 24)

The researchers found that students who consumed alcohol mixed with energy drinks were twice as likely to be hurt or injured, twice as likely to require medical attention, and twice as likely to ride with an intoxicated driver, as were students who did not consume alcohol mixed with energy drinks. Students who drank alcohol mixed with energy drinks were more than twice as likely to take advantage of someone else sexually, and almost twice as likely to be taken advantage of sexually.
"We knew anecdotally - from speaking with students, and from researching internet blogs and websites - that college students mix energy drinks and alcohol in order to drink more, and to drink longer," said Mary Claire O'Brien, M.D., associate professor of emergency medicine and public health sciences and lead researcher on the study. "But we were surprised that the risk of serious and potentially deadly consequences is so much higher for those who mixed energy drinks with alcohol, even when we adjusted for the amount of alcohol."

GURU Energy Drink, 100% Natural, Case Pack
(24- 8.3 Fluid Ounce Cans)

Compared to current drinkers who did not consume alcohol mixed with energy drinks, students who did drank significantly more during a typical drinking session (5.8 drinks versus 4.5 drinks/typical session). They reported twice as many episodes of weekly drunkenness (1.4 versus 0.73 days/week). The greatest number of drinks in a single episode was 36 percent higher for students who reported drinking energy drinks with their alcohol (8.3 versus 6.1 drinks.)

Energy drinks are soft drinks advertised as providing energy to improve physical activity of the drinker, as compared to a typical drink. Rather than providing food energy (as measured in calories), these drinks are designed to increase a user's mental alertness and physical performance by the addition of caffeine, vitamins, and herbal supplements which may interact to provide a stimulant effect over and above that obtained from caffeine alone.

- Energy drinks keep you awake longer so you can drink more alcohol. Makes great business sense for the bars and pubs!
