Good Old England

I have never been to England, but have fallen in love with it through pictures, websites and articles by other people who seem to love it over there and vacation there over and over! So,I have decided to research the area and do a lens on England. I'll give it my best! Find all things English here!

Famous landmarks and places

Stonehenge is a famous landmark in the south western part of England built by ancient people. Some of the stones weigh 25 tons! This structure consists of immense rings of giant stones sunk into the earth. Scholars do not know the exact purpose of these stones, but every June 21st,which is the longest day of the year, the sun rises exactly over a smaller stone set outside the circles. Hundreds of thousands of people visit Stonehenge every year to marval at this fasinating site.

The Beautiful Cotswolds area

I think I would like the Cotswolds area of England best. This is beautiful countryside, with some thatched roof cottages and canals. Some of the pictures I've seen remind me of the quaint villages portrayed by Thomas Kinkade in his paintings of "light". William Shakespeare lived in the area of Stratford-upon-Avon. Check out my Amazon sections for maps, walking guides and books about the Cotswolds! I understand that the English love to walk, and there are many walking trails for the public, where they have the right-of-way, even through privately owned land. The National Trust has a website Click Here where you can ask for maps and guides to historic places.

Cotswolds Area

Beautiful Cotswolds area of England where I'm told many people travel, as they consider it the prettiest part of England with villages of thatched roof cottages!

My husband is from South-East England. I've visited a couple of times and it is beautiful. Some of the countryside is breathtaking. I made a lens about his hometown, Godalming, and am lensrolling this to it. Great pictures, by the way :) 5*s.

you got enough lenses now to make a lensography (see mine at http://www.squidoo.com/ekography to see what a lensograpy is.) You use it to show case all of your lenses by topic. It requires the use of "deatured lenses" modules. once you get the lensography started let me know and I can show you how to build it; they take a while to set up, but they end up becoming the top rated lenses, because people will go to it to find all of your other lenses

Hi 5* and lens roll.

You may wish to give my Britannia lens a whirl; a lens dedicated to all things English including English Castles and Historical sites, Nature reserves and Wildlife parks. For example Mountfitchet castle being just one of hundreds scattered around England. Mountfitchet Castle of 1066 is reconstructed to how it would have been at the time of the Norman Invasion including village life and the wildlife of that time.

I was just going to write and say about Dorset - then I find Zeal already did so - ha! I was born in Poole, my Dad lived just outside Shaftesbury for the last few years.

It's a beautiful part of the world. Zeal mentioned the northern part of Dorset. In the south it's different - Poole and Bournemouth have some of the best beaches in the world, not to mention Sandbanks Peninsula, now the 4th most expensive place to live in the world. Pool Harbour is the 2nd largest in the world, and Brownsea Island in the harbour was the site of the 1st Boy Scout Camp.

The Purbeck Hills across the harbour have spectacular limestone cliffs, and the ruins of Corfe Castle. Also the deserted village of Tyneham in the middle of the artillery ranges, open for only several days a year.

Then further west the famous Lyme Regis (as in The French Lieutenants Woman), the seaside towns of Swanage, Weymouth, Portland Bill, the quaint old towns of West Bay and Bridport...

Nice lens - *****
