The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Cherry Sunburst, in its league, is easily the best choice available. Epiphones are the only imported electric guitars endorsed by Mr. Les Paul. The first prototype of what eventually became the Gibson Les Paul came from experimentation with an Epiphone Guitar. Go figure!

Some retailers list the body of this guitar as a mix of alder and mahogany. While others just list it as all mahogany. This confusion could be because some stores consider this model a variation of the Standard that only comes in black. The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Specs are listed below.

The pickups are replicas of the popular Gibson combo 490/498 which are designed to have more upper midrange therefore a more contemporary sound. They are versatile enough to handle any style you throw at them.

The finish is impressive with a high level of detail on the flamed maple top. The neck is a replica of the 60's slim tapered neck featured on Gibson Les Paul Classics. It comes with original Grover tuners.

The Finish of Rock Stars

In the bio picture you can see me having the good fortune of playing one of the nicest Gibsons in cherry sunburst I've seen. At an open performance, a friend of mine allowed me to use his guitar.

I didn't know the song well and was trying to get out of the embarrassment I was heading to. But I came up with some courage and went for it.

After playing many Les Pauls through the years it hit me that it was the first time I was performing with a Cherry Sunburst. After 15 years of idolizing others playing this finish I was finally doing it.

And yet somehow I was complaining, what an idiot.

The only difference between the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top Cherry Sunburst and the Plus is the flames on the finish. This guitar is a very good deal considering that this feature doesn't affect the sound or performance of the guitar at all.

With the difference I would buy a pair of Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro pickups and put together an awesome poor man Slash guitar.

The Epiphone Les Paul Ultra Cherry Sunburst is another desirable model of the Les Paul. It's mahogany body has chambers that reduce the weight and provide an acoustic tonality to the classic sound of this guitar. It also has a carved belly rest and a narrower neck making it very comfortable to play.

It offers a classier look with all the hardware being gold plated. This guitar was thought by many players to be the signature instrument of Heart's guitarist Nancy Wilson. It turned out to be just a endorsement. A very good guitar for female rockers indeed.
