ESP LTD EC 401 vs Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus
The first prototype of what eventually became the Gibson Les Paul guitar was made by Mr. Les Paul modifying an Epiphone guitar with a log of pinewood, this happened at an Epiphone factory.
When Ted McCarty acquired Epiphone it was in pursue of something that Gibson actually didn't have, good stand up basses. It was good luck for Gibson that Epiphone was going through a rough time.
ESP and their LTD Eclipse guitars offer one of the best Les Paul styled electric guitars available today. Here I'll compare it vs the Epiphone Les Paul Standard.

ESP LTD EC 401 Review
Playability: 4/5
Construction Quality: 4/5
Finish: 4/5
Overall Value: 4.5/5
The ESPLTD EC 401 might not have the Les Paul signature, but it's arguably a more comfortable guitar to play. The only item it lacks compared the original Les Paul is a tone knob, but it's hard to make the case that a tone knob would make that much difference.
The mahogany body only features one tone control, this might be a better set up to many players that don't use these controls that much. It has a thinner neck than the Epiphone Les Paul, jumbo frets for easy bending and the Earvana compensated nut for better intonation.
This is a very good hard rock electric guitar. It features Seymour Duncan JB and 59' humbuckers. A lot of guitars come with the Seymour Duncan Jazz pickup in the neck, I think the 59' compliments the JB a lot better. The tuners are mini Grovers.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Review
Playability: 4/5
Construction Quality: 4/5
Finish: 4/5
Overall Value: 5/5
This Epiphone Les Paul Standard sticks to the legendary formula of mahogany body, flamed maple top, maple neck and rosewood fretboard. This recipe has made the Les Paul among the most important musical instruments in modern music.
The pickups are replicas of the Gibson 490R and 498T, these are designed to offer more upper midrange and provide a more modern sound. The neck pickup is smooth and the bridge pickup is very hard rock with tons of harmonics.
I've tried this guitar with plenty of good amps and it has never disappointed me. The guitar comes with original Grover tuners and an easy playing neck based on the Gibson 60's slim tapered.

Ibanez Art300 Review
Playability: 4/5
Construction Quality: 4/5
Finish: 4/5
Overall Value: 5/5
It's interesting to see the changes that the Ibanez Art300 makes to the Les Paul design. This is one of the first companies to be sued by Gibson for making exact replicas of the Les Paul back in the 70's.
This Ibanez guitar is easier than a Les Paul in smaller hands, it has a thinner neck and a more comfortable bridge, a very cool scalloped maple top and active pickups powered by AA batteries.
This guitar is designed for a younger player. I've taught many teenagers and it seems that Ibanez guitars are always the ones they gravitate towards when their parents are not involved in the decision.
