Seasoning Spices For Healthy Meals
Ranked #15,533 in Food & Cooking, #271,190 overall
When preparing healthy meals do you consider the seasoning spices you use?
Healthy eating is something many of us try to do and we often rely on seasoning spices to make the dishes more exciting, but many of the seasonings we buy in stores can take healthy meals to unhealthy in a few shakes. This lens will bring to light an example of this and what you can do to spice up your healthy meals and feel good about it.
Don't forget about seasoning spices when you're preparing healthy meals
One of the best ways to make healthy meals tastier is by adding seasoning spices, but they are not all created equal ...
When you are on a journey to healthier eating and preparing healthy meals, it can be challenging because many of the foods you prepare may seem bland and frankly, boring. To compensate, you turn to seasoning spices, which are a terrific way of adding flair to your healthy meals, making it much easier for you and your whole family to enjoy.
But wait...have you ever read what's on the label of those store bought seasoning spices? Let's take a common flavor enhancer like chicken bouillon (stock). In particular we will look at 1/2 a cube or 7.5 ml (1 serving) which you might be adding to your healthy dish. Going down the list, calories 15...not bad, fat 0.5....very good, cholesterol 0....can't get much better then that, and sodium 880 mg...ouch!
Based on Health Canada's recommendations, you should be consuming 1,500 - 2,300mg/day for adults and 1,200 mg/day for kids. The majority of people consume between 2,300 - 4,066 mg/day of sodium which puts you at a much higher risk for developing high blood pressure, a key ingredient in cardiovascular disease.
Okay, so it's pretty clear that common seasoning spices and ingredients that we use every day, even in what we consider healthy meals, are probably not that healthy. So what can you do to add that much needed flavor and still be making what you would consider a healthy meal for you and your family?
Epicure Selections® is a Canadian family-owned company offering a delicious and nutritious line of versatile seasoning spice blends. Not only are these blends very unique, but many of them are salt-free and almost all of them are low-sodium with under 140mg per serving.
So go back to our comparison of the bouillon. The comparable serving for the 1/2 cube of chicken bouillon would be 7.5 ml of the Victorian Epicure's Chicken Bouillon Base which has 120 mg of sodium. And what about the taste? Well, it 's hard for me to describe a comparison to a store brand, but in my opinion the Epicure Selections Chicken Bouillon Base tastes fantastic and yes, better than the store brands.
This is just one example of many dish enhancers that Epicure Selections® offers that truly make healthy cooking and eating enjoyable. Some of the other top products are: Onion Dip Mix, Bruschetta Herbs, Cajun Seasoning, Chinese 5 Spices, Garlic Potato Topper and Madras Curry - all which are salt-free. These are just a few of Epicure's products, there are over 140 low-sodium products currently being offered.
What you may not realize is that Epicure Selections® products cannot be purchased from your local store. You can however order them through a qualified consultant like myself, Christine Kemp.
