Whinny, what a thrilling ride!
Here Whinny is taking me on a thrilling gallop up the famous, and VERY steep, Blue Hill at Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu NM, one time home of painter Georgia O'Keeffe.......Whinny began developing melanomas at age 10; he is nearly 24 now, and up until the end of 2008 I was riding him quite a bit. Right now he is resting and trying the Super Tonic to see if his cells can have a turn-around....

Wintersett -- Son of the Famous Gdansk
My beloved purebred Arabian gelding Wintersett, born in 1985, son of the famous Gdansk, began developing melanomas when he was about 10. I have had many white Arabians and part Arabians over the years, and never has one developed melanomas.Photo of Gdansk in his prime!
Whinny has been getting an acupuncture treatment from the Veterinarians at Interlaken Vet. Center in Waconia MN. These treatments have helped quite a bit, as well as the
Immune System Boosting Supplement he eats every day.

Whinny's tear ducts and sheath have melanoma, but also some under his tail and a couple on his body.....They first appeared under his tail, and one grew quite fast and large. These were also the first to have the most effect from the acupuncture treatments.
Can Resveratrol Inhibit Melanoma Growth?
There are nearly 3000 studies showing the benefits of Resveratrol on many aspects of health, including many studies with cancer patients. There are almost no studies on equine melanomas and Resveratrol, but I certainly am going to be doing ''experiments'' of my own with an amazing new resveratrol super tonic!
I am assuming that it will be many weeks before I start seeing any results; humans are reporting the beginnings of results after only 14 days, but I am not expecting this in Whinny, tho I am open to surprises!
One website concluded ---
These data suggest that resveratrol can inhibit tumor growth and can induce apoptosis via the intrinsic mitochondrial pathway and that by further increasing bioavailability of resveratrol the potency of the drug can be increased, leading to tumor regression. The nontoxic nature of the drug at levels needed for therapy make resveratrol an attractive candidate for the treatment of uveal melanoma.
Bioabsorbable Cisplatin Beads for Skin Cancers
Skin cancers are seen in horses, and many methods and technologies have been used to treat them. One of the more recent strategies is intralesional chemotherapy, or placing a chemotherapeutic agent directly in the tumor to kill the abnormal cells. At the 2007 American Association of Equine Practitioners Convention, held Dec. 1-5 in Orlando, Fla., Christina Hewes, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS, a practitioner in Alamo, Calif., discussed the newest twist on this approach--placing bioabsorbable beads of the chemotherapeutic agent cisplatin in a tumor for a slow release of chemotherapy.Whinny will not receive this treatment, the number of melanomas he has would make the procedure and expensive quite prohibitive......
It is possible that this treatment would be good for those just beginning the equine melanoma battle, but I have no personal experience with this.

White Horses Love Mud The Most!
For some reason, each of our white horses get the thickest mud coats! It is so fabulous having white horses in our brown New Mexico environment -- when looking for the herd, we can always spot the white ones first!

Whinny at a Charitable Event

Here is a photo of Whinny and me participating in an art event. My dear friend and horse buddy, world famous sculptor Star Liana York, invited several of us to her gorgeous ranch. We were to dress in various costumes, and many artists came and did their individual mediums; painting, photography, sculpture, multi-media.......
Two months later, they held the Mane Event to raise money for various local charities.
Whinny Dresses Up in Arabian Costume
Here we are at the Mane Event, hosted by the Las Campanas Equestrian Center. This is my Authentic Native Arabian Costume. The various parts were brought to me over the course of about 5 years when friends who were living in Kurdistan would come back to the USA for a visit. They were there drilling water wells for the villages that had lost theirs to the brutal wars prior to the first Gulf War........
White Horse at the Car Wash

Prior to both events, we took my darling mud-loving Whinny to the drive-thru car wash in Santa Fe where we were able to get him super gleaming white!
Then the art was auctioned at a large charitable event at the Las Campanas Equestrian Center. Here Whinny is pictured with painter Jaye Oliver, one of the participants in the event and one of my dear friends!
Salves
We have not experimented with this salve, , but it would possibly be worth a try as well for equine melanoma, even thought it is made for equine sarcoids.
Juniper Pollen Gallop
Here Whinny and I have a fun Pollen Run!
