All About Erin Hamlin
Erin is the first American woman to win the Luge World Championship, gaining the title with a stunning victory at Lake Placid, NY in February, 2009. Her victory was not only a great milestone in American sports history, but broke an incredible streak of 99 consecutive wins by German women, who last lost in 1997! Erin is the first American woman to ever medal at the Luge World Championships.
A 2010 Vancouver Olympian, Erin is also the 2009 and 2008 U.S. National Champion and was a member of the 2006 Olympic team. She was the USA Luge Female Athlete of the Year in 2009 and 2008, a U.S. Olympic Committee Athlete of the Month in 2009, a World Cup team relay Gold Medalist in 2007 and the U.S. Junior Singles National Champion in 2005 and 2004. In the 2006 Olympics in Torino, Italy, Erin slid to a 12th place finish while only 19 years old.
Erin was introduced to the sport of luge in 1999, at the age of 12, through a USA Luge Slider Search in Syracuse, NY. Now that she has reached the very top of her sport, she is very much looking forward to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver!
Erin is a spokesperson for the National Headache Foundation.
