European Swordsmanship - traditional martial arts of the west

European swordsmanship, and western martial arts in general, are gaining popularity. With several schools now open throughout the world and uTube videos, there is an obvious interest. It's sometimes hard to find the information that you need, so come here and I can tell you more! I study the works of German masters, including Joachim Meyer, Hans Talhoffer, Lichtenauer, and more. Of course, the English masters are examined, including George Silver, Jacob Sutor, and others. I teach for the Academy of European Swordsmanship, Canada's oldest WMA school.">

European Swordsmanship - A Quick Explanation

Historical European Martial Arts - What are they?

This is a long standing martial art that is a complete system of self defence. Used by the masters of the middle ages and Renaissance in actual battle, as well as in many modern martial arts systems, including Grav Moga and MMA. Western Martial arts concentrate on swordsmanship in most schools. The best practitioners include several weapons styles, such as short sword, long sword, pole arms, shields, knives/daggers, and unarmed combat. You'll see it all here!

Not only is Steaphen a great guy, but he's easy to understand, and has some great insights into our traditional martial systems. I love this book! And if you ever get a chance to work with Steapen, don't miss it!

The Martial Arts of Renaissance Europe

This is an awesome read! After I bought it I couldn't put it down. It has a great overview of Europe's martial arts systems and the different masters of the Renaissance.

REVIEW: 'Reclaiming the Blade' (2009)
7/10 ? RECLAIMING THE BLADE is a high-concept and broad-ranging documentary that examines the evolving history, culture and application of the Western European sword by exploring scholarly research, historical reenactment, choreographed screen and stage fighting, sport fencing, .... For instance, there is no mention of traditional or contemporary Chinese swordsmanship and its relation to hidden or unconventional weaponry or internal concepts like qigong and qi energy. ...
I should blog more often. But nothing really interesting happens ...
Well, at least I took some of them down during grading... Hahaha. And I got invited to join the demo team! Although I suspect it will be to use me to tell the audience, "Look, in European swordsmanship, even a hobbit can prevail!!!" ...
