Everything Serenity - A Firefly Site That Has It All

Malcom Reynolds - Captain of the Firefly-class Serenity. He volunteered on the side of the Independents during the Unification War (civil war) between Independents (browncoats) and the Alliance. He is fiercly loyal to his crew. The name of his ship, Serenity, is named after the last battle between the Browncoats and the Alliance, in Serenity Valley. He is played by actor, Nathan Fillion.

Zoe Washburne - She served in the Unification War under Sergeant Malcom Reynolds and continues under his command onboard the Serenity. She is a very loyal and deadly fighter, and also second-in-command of the crew. She is the only member of the crew to regularly call him [Malcom] "sir" as she takes orders as if receiving them from a superior officer. She is married to Wash [Hoban Washburne]. She is played by actress, Gina Torres.

Mal: "Ship like this, be with you 'til the day you die."
Zoe Washburne: "Cause it's a deathtrap."

Hoban Washburne - He serves as the pilot of Serenity, and also is married to the ship's first mate, Zoe. People usually call him "Wash", instead of Hoban. He's a laid-back guy with a pragmatic cut-and-run personality, although he has proven his resolve when his friends are in danger. He's known to have a collection of toy dinosaurs that he plays with in the cockpit. He is played by actor, Alan Tudyk.

Wash: "This may get interesting"
Mal: "Define "interesting"."
Wash: [defined] "Oh God, Oh God, We're all gonna die".

Inara Serra - She is a companion, in otherwords a high-profile courtesan licensed by the Union of Allied Planets (Alliance). She has considerable skills in the art of sex and emotional well-being. Mal and her have an unacknowledgable attraction and chemistry between them, but it's usually resisted and ignored. She is played by Morena Baccarin.

Mal: "Inara, think you can stoop to bein' on my arm?"
Inara Serra: "Will you wash it first?"

Jayne Cobb - He's a physically imposing mercenary. Dispite his unsophisticated manner, he regularly displays cunning and common sense when the need arises. Originally he was a member of a gang that ambushes Mal and Zoe, but Jayne switches sides and joins Mal after Mal offers him a larger share of heists and his own bunk. He is played by Adam Baldwin.

Jayne: "Testing, testing. Captain, can you hear me?"
Mal: "I'm standing right here."
Jayne: "You're coming through good and loud."
Mal: " 'Cause I'm standing right here."

Kaylee Frye - She has an exceptional aptitude for mechanics, despite her lack of any formal training. She serves aboard the Serenity as it's mechanic, and is usually the most sweet and chipper out of the crew. No matter what goes on around her she tries to see the postive side of the situation. Her full name is Kaywinnit Lee Frye, but she goes by Kaylee for short. She is played by actress, Jewel Staite.

Kaylee: "Catalyzer on the port compression coil blew. It's where the trouble started."
Mal: "Okay, I need that in captain dummy talk, Kaylee."

Simon Tam - Since he was young his family had high hopes for him to have a future in medicine. He was in the top three percent of his class and accepted into the best Medical Academy on Osiris. Eventually he rescued his sister [see River Tam] and joined the crew of Serenity. He has a romantic interest in Kaylee. He is played by actor, Sean Maher.

Simon: "River?"
River: "I swallowed a bug."

River Tam - River is a teenage sister of Simon Tam, both which had taken refuge on the Serenity. She was considered a child prodigy and athletically gifted. Eventually she went to the Academy, although it was in fact a cover for a government experiment in creating the perfect assassin. She was heavily experimented on and eventually went insane. She is played by actress, Summer Glau.

River: "Also, I can kill you with my brain."

Derrial Book - He is a shepard and provides frequent spirital advice and perspectives for the crew of Serenity. Throughout the series there are references about Derrial having inside information about the inner-workings of the Alliance. His secret past is shrouded in mystery, which is only hinted at throughout the tv series from time to time. He is played by actor, Ron Glass.

Zoe: "Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killin'?"
Book: "Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps."
