When Lakes Turn Deadly

There are rules about such things ... or so we think. After all, apples don't fall up, lions don't have feathers, and lakes don't explode. Oh, but if you happened to be living in Cameroon you'd know all too well that lakes can, and do, explode. And when they do, the results are often devastating.

Malaysia Landslide

"This landslide occurred at Seaside Malaysia on 1993 year, and this video was taken on the spot at that time. That year, I received a call by the owner of a tin mine (the element tin, not tin as in cans...). He said that his mine, which had been running for a few decades, was about to collapse. I rushed to the scene with my video camera and waited for a few hours. Finally, I took this valuable footage. Although the footage lasted only a few minutes, it is horribly exciting enough. I hope that this video can let you all appreciate the consequence of ruining our environment."

A smaller gas burst from Lake Monoun in August of 1984 killed 37 people. There are several aspects of these disasters that we need to understand, and they include the build-up of the gas, the release of the gas, and the remediation of the hazards.
