Eye Strain From Computers - The $2 Billion Secret

Ranked #73,793 in Computers & Electronics, #1,140,174 overall

The Shocking Truth About Eye Strain from Computers

Eye strain from computers affects 50%-90% of computer workers, of which there are 100 million, according to the American Optometric Association. 10 million primary eye care exams are provided annually in this country at a cost of $2 billion primarily because of visual problems caused by eye strain from computers. This number does not include anyone outside the workforce like students, people at home, children, and so on.

In 20 years we have gone from a printed to a pixellated mode of getting and receiving information. From print to computer screens, Blackberries, texting, Kindles, other digital handheld device. Our eyes, naturally, are struggling to keep pace with these new and different demands.

Reading digitally IS different from reading print. Pixels are brighter in the middle and fuzzier at the edges, print is like a solid line to the eyes. It's a whole new visual ball game.

Looking at a computer is different than reading. When we are working on the computer our eyes focus on the screen. But they cannot sustain that focus so they relax to a point somewhere behind the screen (technically called the RPA or Resting Point of Accommodation). Then they strain again to refocus on the screen.

This constant flexing is what causes eye strain from computers. It's not surprising as most of us have only started working with computers in the last 15 years. The name for this new malady is CVS (Computer Vision Syndrome).

How to Reduce Eye Strain From Computers

CVS is more than just a drug store, it's a pain in the neck

Over 200 million Americans use computers or digital devices daily, and this figure is already out of date because it precedes the iPhone and Kindle. Of that number up to 93% are likely to be afflicted with symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) according to a 1998 study quoted by the American Optometric Association.

CVS symptoms include:
- Headaches - ranging from minor annoyances to full-blown migraines
- Dry eyes
- Fatigue
- Vision problems
- Back and neck pain

How to reduce computer eye strain symptoms?
1. Consciously blink the eyes every few minutes
2. Look to a distant object every few minutes
3. Use the 20-20-20 rule; every 20 minutes, look an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds
4. Close your eyes for 20 seconds every half hour
5. Change your computer workstation to facilitate good posture
6. Use eye drops regularly

Doing these will alleviate the symptoms.
The problem is that most of us have too busy a life to pay consistent attention to a list like this.

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THERE IS A SIMPLER SOLUTION TO EYE STRAIN FROM COMPUTERS.

I love working online more than ever now since I discovered GUNNAR Optics digital eyewear.
See what you think!

DON'T trust the fate of your eyes to something two guys dreamed up in a shed outside Chengdu and mass produced for pennies. Think about it. You want technology you can trust.

The Simple Solution to Eye Strain from Computers.....

Digital Performance Eyewear - Go Get Your Gunnars!

Computer Eye Strain Glasses Don't mess about with your eyes. They have a whole new world of stress to get used to. And it's growing all the time. Get yourself digital eyewear from people that know what they are on about, people that invent technologies to deal with the issue, people that are OCD about this.

I'm talking about GUNNAR Optix, not two guys in a shed outside Chengdu.
Gunnar has developed a revolutionary line of eye wear using i-AMP technology lenses engineered to reduce eye fatigue and crafted with enough style and aesthetic sensibility to keep Apple-heads happy.

I-AMP is a proprietary lens technology that includes lens materials, lens tints, lens coatings, and lens geometry. i-AMP helps relax the ocular muscles that strain to view text and images at close distance and minimizes eye fatigue by improving eye focus, reducing glare and blocking ambient light.

All the pictures of glasses on this lens are examples of Gunnar eyewear.
Gunnar offers a wide variety of different models, styles, and colors all of which can be found on the GUNNAR Optix website.
Important!

The Most Important Thing

... is that you realize your eyes need support.
So get the best support you can.
GUNNAR is the industry leader in understanding the human optical system.
The Gunnar people are lunatics in my opinion.
But I am glad for their lunacy.
They are driving solutions to a huge problem that most of us don't even know exists yet.

Short term you're more effective...long term you'll stop frying your eyes

If you need sun glasses you need computer screen glasses!

Computer Screen Glasses Most of us spend 4 TIMES as many hours in front of digital screens than we do in sunlight.
Protect your eyes!!!
Gunnar says of themselves "GUNNAR Optix is a technology company that seeks to enhance the abilities of the human visual system through revolutionary innovations. A monomaniacal passion for optical perfection. It's a phrase that defines every action at GUNNAR."
Might be a little OTT but I would much rather that than anything less where my sight is involved.

What results can youexpect from wearing GUNNAR digital performance eyewear?
- An increase in visual resolution
- An increase in contrast
- Sharper, clearer vision
- A reduction in glare and reflective light
- A decrease in eye fatigue
- Higher humidity levels surrounding the eyes
- A reduction in the effects related to dry eyes
- An increase in effectiveness, productivity and performance

Sooooo......
Go Get Your Gunnars

So What Do You Think?

What are all those hours staring at a screen doing to YOUR eyes?
