This is actually a really, exceedingly cool toy!
With its pretty rugged construction it appear as very kid-friendly.

If you study the picture of the item, the big thing in the middle is the camera, surrounded by some high powered infra-red LEDs. Those can be switched on or off. When on, they visually glow a dull red but act as a floodlight for the camera.

The infrared LED's array works great for finding far away objects. I was making a test in a complete dark room of about 50ft long and I could clearly make out details near the far wall, I could even read the text on some posters.

The goggles are amazingly lightweight, lighter than I expected beforehand!
