I decided to add a short history of Pembroke Pines, Florida, here and was surprised to see my last name pop up in the information I searched (no relation that I can find, though).

Pembroke Pines started as a slightly less than square mile property between Pembroke Road, Hollywood Boulevard (now Pines Blvd), SW 72 Avenue and the Florida Turnpike. .

In 1960, a developer named Joseph LaCroix annexed 320 acres to the city which allowed Pembroke Pines to spread West. Twenty years later, in 1980, property from Flamingo Road all the way to U.S. 27 was added to what is now Pembroke Pines. This doubled the city and, in part, made Pembroke Pines the great city it is today.

Being a resident in this city, I often find it amusing that "anything West of I-75" is considered the boondocks, because we have a diverse selection of shops, services, and entertainment facilities that rival anything "on the East side" of the city.

We also have wonderful recreation facilities available like Holiday Park where residents and visitors alike can hop onto an airboat to view alligators and native wildlife and many other local parks where the whole family can enjoy nature and learn about the area. We have two large movie theaters available, lots of restaurants, shops, and services that are necessary to daily living.

Pembroke Pines, Florida 33029 is a great place not only to live, but to visit!

I, myself, am a Wal-mart Super Center shopper because of price and convenience. It is located less than a mile from my home and they usually have exactly what I need. It's convenient, close, and the price is usually right.

It's where I go to get my hair cut as their prices are very reasonable, they have a Red Box right inside the entrances for when I want to watch an inexpensive DVD for the evening, and pick up my prescriptions while I shop. While I'm not always a fan of Wholesale Clubs because the selection available is not always what I would like, the BJ's at FL 33029 always has a great meat selection. I prefer picking up my regular groceries at the Walmart or Publix, which is also close to my home, and then picking up the bulk meats from BJ's and splitting them up into family portions when I get home. I have three grown up sons so buying my meat products in bulk makes sense to me.

I'm a crafter who enjoys beaded and wired jewelry, the sewing crafts, and formed art. Almost all of the equipment and supplies I need for my crafts can be found between these two locations. Of course, we have the local hardware stores when I need galvanized sheets or loads of copper wire, but, for the most part, everything I need is either at Michael's or AC Moore. I use a lot of polymer clay to make my own designer jewelry. I like to buy a specific brand and when I need a certain color clay, I need that particular color! Instead of paying $3 per small block, I really like to only pay $1 to $1.25 a block, so I've learned to make a "grocery" list for my clay colors. When I'm down to only a block or two of a color that I know I use a lot, it goes on my "list" and I start watching for the sales. Except for the one or two blocks that I HAVE to have no matter if it's on sale or not, I get most of my clay for a much reduced price.

For the crafters out there, you know that every time you are able to save money on your supplies, your overhead is lower and you actually make more from what you sell. That's what it's all about in the home crafting world.

ZBK has a gazillion comics for sale and the amount of collectibles that he has on offer is phenomenal. Each time we walk in there, I am drawn to the figurines of the comics of my youth. Just awesome.

RJ Sports Cards is a section inside of ZBK Comics and buy/sell/trade sports cards of all kinds. The staff who work there are knowledgeable, yet friendly, and they take the time to talk to you. They will bend over backwards helping you to find exactly what you need.
