Fake Security Cameras - - a visual deterrent.

A home security camera is installed first and foremost as a visual deterrent. They are also installed to make a recording of burglars in the hope of them being identified and arrested.

A fake security camera can perform the first function adequately - if it is convincingly realistic. What it cannot do, of course, is aid in the identification and capture of criminals.

Wouldn't a burglar know that the camera is not real?

If it looks obviously fake then even the most inexperienced criminal will not be deterred from breaking in to your home.

An imitation indoor camera installed outside will fool no one, the dummy camera will need to look like it is weatherproof and designed to be fixed outside.

Thinking the same way as a burglar, ask yourself if you would pick out a home with (what appears to be) a security camera? Of course you wouldn't. You would not want to risk having your actions recorded.

There are so many more homes that do not appear to have security surveillance so if the thief is fooled by your dummy camera he is likely to forget about your home and move on.

Fake Security Cameras for the home.

Any security camera system, including real functioning security cameras, are not in themselves enough to protect your home. Cameras should be only a part of an overall security plan. Your security consciousness (locking up before you leave your home etc.) is your best weapon against burglary.

Good locks on doors and windows, and a good alarm system should also be part of your plan. A surveillance camera system will be an effective back up. Even fake security cameras can provide a good visual deterrent.

Be it real? Or be it fake?

Best that I not tempteth fate, I'll creepeth back out the garden gate.

Fake security cameras, or dummy cameras, are non-functional surveillance cameras designed to fool intruders, or anyone who it is supposedly watching. Those cameras are intentionally placed in a noticeable place, so passing people notice them and believe the area to be monitored by CCTV.

The cheapest fake security cameras can be recognized by not having real lenses (the "lenses" are just an opaque piece of plastic) Other fake cameras include broken real cameras, motion sensors disguised as cameras, or empty camera housings. They may have flashing lights, or a motor to simulate pan-tilt motion.

Since dummy cameras are non-functional, they are generally used in environments where the only need for a security camera is to deter minor theft and vandalism, such as small businesses like restaurants and convenience...

You don't want fake?

If you would prefer security cameras for your home to be real functioning cameras then there are many systems available.

Naturally real security cameras cost a little more than fake cameras and you need a system to record events, such as capturing images of a burglar. But the good news is that real security cameras are available in a wide range of prices starting off at very reasonable.

Which do you choose?

Are fake security cameras, used as a visual deterrent, good enough for you? Or would you prefer real functioning cameras?

Can YOU Fake It?

So, spill the beans. Would you feel secure enough with fake security cameras or would you only install the real thing?

Fake is enough security.

Only the real thing is good enough.

TheWhistler says:

I think you are better off with the real thing, however there have been instances when a fake camera in site has stopped crime.

Oosquid says:

For me . . . I go for the real cameras, but . . .

if money is a problem, as it can be, then fake cameras are certainly better than nothing, IMHO.
