Fallout Boy Wins Several Awards For Major Album Debut
In 2001, the alternative and pop punk band from Wilmette, Illinois called Fall Out Boy (also known as FOB, for short) was born. Over the years, the group produced four albums with a handful of Top Ten hits spanning the United States and United Kingdom music charts. With a strong teenage crowd following, the band continues to capture the attention of their audience with singles, such as Dance, Dance and Sugar, We're Goin Down. Â
Background Information
Hailing from a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, Fall Out Boy has worked under record labels, such as Island Records and Fueled by Ramen. Currently, the band is comprised of Patrick Stump (rhythm guitar, lead vocals, and primary composer), Joe Trohman (lead guitar), Pete Wentz (backup vocals, bass guitar, and primary lyricist), and Andy Hurley (drums).
Brief Career History
The music of Fall Out Boy first hit the airwaves when a duel EP was released with Project Rocket in 2002 under the label, Uprising Records. Their debut album did not come until 2003, when Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girlfriend was released. It was during this time that the group concentrated on developing a fan base in Chicago. They tackled many of the local clubs and held performances in arenas, such as the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Soon after their first album was released, the band acquired Andy Hurley as their drummer, who formerly played with Racetraitor. This would also mark the moment when they group would sign to Fueled by Ramen, followed by the release of their second full length project, Take This to Your Grave. Singles, such as Saturday, received attention on music television stations, including FUSE and MTV. In 2003, the band shifted to Island Records, where they then released the acoustic EP, My Heart Will Always Be the B Side to My Tongue. An accompanying DVD followed.
Controversy and instability managed to strike the band when the bass guitarist, Wentz overdosed on a prescription sedative in an attempt to take his own life. Songs inspired by the crisis were included on the group's third album, From Under the Cork Tree, which was released in 2005. The album would debut on the Billboard 200 at #9, selling more than 70,000 copies within the first week alone. Eventually, the album would reach Triple Platinum status.
Over the years, Fall Out Boy has toured with a variety of bands, including the All American Rejects and blink182. After the release of their fourth album, Infinity on High, additional tour dates and headlining concerts are in the future, including the Live Earth concerts slated to take place in July of 2007.
Discography & Musical Achievements
Fall Out Boy has released four albums over the course of their career, and has received several different accolades for their musical efforts. Their first single, Sugar We're Goin Down peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, and earned the #1 spot on MTV's TRL, where the video was eventually retired. This is the same music video that won an MTV2 Award at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards.
Their second album, Take This to Your Grave was named one of the Top 20 Independent Albums in the United States. Infinity on High, their fourth album release on February 7th, 2007, has reached Platinum status in the United States and achieved the #3 position on United Kingdom music charts.
Besides being nominated for Best New Artist at the 2006 Grammy Awards, the group has won a MuchMusic Video Award in 2006, as well as several Teen Choice Awards. In 2007, the band was nominated for a Kid's Choice Award for Favorite Group.
