Kids and Pets in The Great Outdoors
Some people call us crazy (diapers and campfires?), but we know better. We like spending time with our familes (and the furry critters we like to call family) because they are the most important things in our lives. Having a family doesn't mean we can't enjoy the outdoors anymore, it just means we have to put a little more effort into it. It's worth it.We all know that spending quality, uninterupted, family time together is priceless. We can't keep our kids out of trouble if we don't know them, and we can't know them without talking to them and spending time with them (that goes for spouse's too). Similarly, our furry friends will do naughty things to get our attention if we have been stingy with our time and affection.
Take them camping. Get away from the telephone (the cell phone too), the tv, and the video games. Spend some time around a campfire, hiking, fishing, boating, or playing cards together stretched out on a sleeping bag before bedtime. Get to know each other better and build a relationship that will go home with you.
It takes planning. Kid's, especially the little ones, need something to keep them busy, and need to be kept feeling comfortable and safe. Animals need a place to sleep that's warm and dry, and they need to be properly constrained so that they don't get lost.
Pack the right camp gear, and get good advice from folks who have been there before.
