A Family Tree Guide Makes The Deceased Come Alive

Of all the years I've spent tracking down my family, one thing I wish I would have had was a family tree guide. Something to keep me organized and on track. I would have been more efficient in my research and in turn been able to accomplish more.

I spent about four months trying to track down my grandfathers mother Laura. My grandfather had already passed away by this time so I had little to go on. Laura had died in 1969 of old age(she was born in 1877). I really didn't know where to start looking or how for that matter for the information needed to find her.

I searched all over the internet and called some family members that might have a clue as to her history to no avail. I finally found a census(after about three months) that had her family on it. She had eleven children in that household...have mercy!

Long story short, three months after that initial census discovery I found out that she was given to a family friend by her father. Her mother had died shortly after giving birth to her. Her father then remarried and for some reason had decided he could not handle Laura and gave her to a family friend at the age of three.

Moral of the story is, had I had the proper tools and techniques I would have accomplished so much more by now.

A Family Tree Guide Can Make Searching Fun & Addictive

And Less Frustrating

Have you ever found an ancestor and then thought to yourself "Now what"? I have and can be very frustrating when you sit there and stare at the blank piece of paper or blank computer monitor wondering where to start.

Sure I could find a census or two, but I wanted more...much more! I just did not know where to start and I did not have a lot of money to pay for information either. When I found the site BeginFamilyTree.com I found much, much more and it hardly cost me a dime.

I found an ancestor who was very rich in military tradition. He served with the union army in Civil War and was a highly decorated soldier. His grandfather was also a very decorated Captain in the Revolutionary war. His sister went on to marry my great grandfather who also served in the Civil War with the Union Army. The research became much less a daunting task and more fascinating and addictive.

Make A Great Family Tree With The Right Family Tree Guide

I sat down one day and tried to fill out a family tree with the ancestors I had and at first I was cruising along pretty good until I got about five or six generations back and that's when things started to get confusing and jumbled together.

I had so much information that when I tried to write it in I ran out of room and pretty soon I started putting people in the wrong places and suddenly I had my great aunt married to my great great great uncle. I was making a complete mess of my family tree...I just wanted to chop it down and give up.

After finding the right family tree guide I finally finished my tree and it is now a poster on my wall...pretty cool.
