Buying Costumes Versus Hiring Costumes

I've started this debate on "Buying Versus Hiring" because I'm really interested to know what people really think about it. Does money come into consideration when you need a costume for your party, or is it all about looking good at any cost. Does it worry you if its been worn before, afterall you don't know who's worn it, or what they might have done in it. So yeh, I'm really looking forward to some interesting comments here.
