What is Fantasy Rugby?
Fantasy Rugby works like any other fantasy sport, for example fantasy baseball or football. They are all online games where people manage a virtual sports team containing real life players. Those players contribute points each game that reflect their actual contribution to their own team that game. In other words the virtual team accrues points based on the actual statistics generated by their player.
Managers purchase players and their virtual team competes against those of other fantasy team managers'. These online fantasy sports have become popular around the world. Internationally, fantasy rugby, cricket and soccer are very popular. Australia has fantasy rugby league and fantasy Australian-rules football while The United States has fantasy versions of baseball and American football
In Fantasy Rugby player prices are reflected by how many people own that player. Managers can buy and sell players throughout the season, but the number of trades are usually limited. The value of players fluctuate as people buy and sell that player.
Whatever the sport, they all have key performance indicators. Some are big, such as scoring for the team, or some are small like kicking or catching a ball. The key performance indicators are converted to points for attribution to the fantasy sport contribution by each player. Points are also deducted for mistakes, making it possible for a player to have negative points in a given week.
The exciting thing about Fantasy Rugby is the wide variety of key performance indicators that can be converted to points. For example, there are scrums, lineouts, tackles, passing, rucks, tackle and line breaks, and even catching and passing. There are obviously scoring plays too, like tries, try assists, conversions, penalties and drop goals. Each action contributes points to a player's weekly contribution. This variety is what makes Fantasy Rugby an exciting and engaging pastime for rugby fans.

Options for Playing Fantasy Rugby
There are a variety of Fantasy Rugby sites available. FantasyRugby.com was one of the first, but they have been inactive over the last couple of seasons. TestRugby.com is similar, and is the site I usually use. Fox Sports and Super Sports have nice graphics, but don't seem to be as popular as Test Rugby.
If anyone knows of any other Fantasy Rugby sites, let me know and I'd be glad to post it.

- Sounds like fun! I hadn't heard about fantasy sports, but with things like Second Life and all sorts of other virtual online games, it makes sense there are virtual sports too. If I had time for it, I'd be interested in a fantasy volleyball team.
